Syria not worried about threats of US attack, says Assad
http://jang.com.pk/thenews/dec2003-daily/16-12-2003/world/w9.htm

ATHENS: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Monday he was not worried that his country could become the United States’ next target after Iraq.

"What happens in Iraq concerns Iraq, not Syria. Syria is not Iraq," Assad said in response to a reporter’s question if his country felt threatened since the US-led invasion and occupation of its eastern neighbour. "This question does not worry us," the Syrian leader said, after a meeting with the president of the Greek parliament, Apostolos Kaklamanis.

"There are no common points to suggest that what happened in Iraq could begin in Syria," Assad said.

On Friday, US President George Bush signed a law providing for economic and diplomatic sanctions to punish Syria for what the United States said were its ties to terrorists, tacit support for insurgents in Iraq and efforts to obtain weapons of mass destruction.

2. Surely Assad isn't that naive.
The neocons have had Syria in their sights since immediately after the Iraq invasion.

3. True, Denverbill....but we think we have problems in Iraq????
If we went into Syria, I'm afraid we'd have a little more trouble than Rummy and Cheney could conceive of.

This deranged bunch of chickenhawks are using the military to bankrupt our country, and other nations are just sitting around licking their disbelieving lips. The s*** is going to hit the fan before too long.

4. Syria is not Iraq
Hopefully Chimpy will pay attention to that line. We won't be able to just stroll into Syria like we did in Iraq.
