He's 51 years old and he serves as secretary of Wisconsin's Department of Veterans Affairs, but now John Scocos has received orders for active duty in Iraq.
He's to leave for Iraq as a colonel in the Army Reserve in late April.
His spokesman says Scocos will serve in Baghdad and his deployment will last up to one year. He was notified of the presidential call-up in recent days.
His deployment comes as President Bush sends thousands of additional troops to Iraq as part of a plan to try to quell violence in Baghdad.
Scocos has been in the Army for 27 years of active and reserve service, serving in Bosnia in the 1990s.

WI Sec. of Veterans Affairs John Scocos will go to Iraq at the end of April for a yearlong deployment
Wisconsin's current Secretary of Veterans Affairs is now the first person in that position to ever be called to active duty.
Scocos has 27 years of active and reserve service, but this will be his first time on active duty in Iraq and he says it will help him help other veterans when he gets home.
'' I've been to a lot of ceremonies welcoming back the veterans, talking to veterans at our veterans events or affairs, but actually putting your feet in those boots and moving forward and seeing some of the experiencing they're experiencing.'' Scocos said.
Scocos says he learned from his father the importance of serving your country. His father was a disabled vet from World War II who was a prisoner of war for almost two years. While Scocos says he looks forward to doing his part, he will miss his wife and three kids.
Secretary Scocos previously served in Germany and Korea.
