29. He can't provide his patients with resources
that HIS superiors don't give him. The real problem, of course, it that the money isn't there--money that is as easy to get as rolling back the tax cuts.

Walter Reed general loses his command http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1152AP_Walter_Reed.html

WASHINGTON -- The Army said Thursday that the two-star general in charge of Walter Reed Army Medical Center has been relieved of command following disclosures about inadequate treatment of wounded soldiers.

Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman, who was commanding general of the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command as well as Walter Reed hospital, was relieved of command by Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey.

In a brief announcement, the Army said service leaders had "lost trust and confidence" in Weightman's leadership abilities "to address needed solutions for soldier outpatient care" at Walter Reed.

General who oversees Walter Reed hospital relieved of duties
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The commanding general at Walter Reed Army Medical Center was removed from the post Thursday by Secretary of the Army Dr. Francis Harvey, the Army announced.

The action against Maj. Gen. George Weightman followed revelations of poor conditions in parts of the medical complex. Weightman also was commanding general of the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command.

In a written statement, the Army said it is working quickly to addresses problems at the facility.

"Maj. Gen. Weightman was informed this morning that the senior Army leadership had lost trust and confidence in the commander's leadership abilities to address needed solutions for soldier-outpatient care at Walter Reed Army Medical Center," the statement said.

"The commanding general of U.S. Army Medical Command, Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley, will be acting temporarily as Walter Reed commander until a general officer is selected for this important leadership position." (Posted 2:01 p.m.)

21. Scapegoat. Repuke Congress is to blame
The Repuke Congress spent six years plus cutting funding for troop support. This is the consequence. The man fired didn't have the resources necessary to have a first rate service. Typical. Now all that is left is to determine what award they will give him within the month.

25. I agree
The only thing they funded was the government contracts handed to their buddies. The troops did without proper equipment, training, and after-care. But hey as long as you say "I support the troops" and put a yellow ribbon on your car that's all anyone needs to do. :sarcasm:

:sarcasm:

Or is it sarcasm?

And what about all the civilian leadership that knew about this and did nothing? In an earlier report there was one (R) who brought his wife and stopped visiting they were so disgusted. The only action they took was to visit OTHER facilities.

They have already started the spin, but they knew. Right up to the top they knew. Bastards.

31. I also read elsewhere
that the First Sergeant and all the Platoon Sergeants in the Medical Holding Detachment have been relieved or transferred. Shit like this is NCO business. They should be fried in place, and their grease used to lubricate the rails for the General on the way out.

...they fire the figurehead--as a PR gesture.

The reality is--we don't provide adequate funding or care for our
returning soldiers. It's fiscal and philosophical policy handed down
from BushCo. How many stories have we heard about sub-par medical
treatment from our soldiers, soldiers waiting for weeks for care and
soldiers being turned away?

This is their policy.

Since they've been exposed, they'll now feign outrage and fire the
big guy. Meanwhile, nothing will change. Then, the public can
go back to buying trinkets and Walmart and BushCo can go back to
treating our soldiers like chattel.

Maybe Junior will fly over Walter Reed hospital in a big helicopter,
and try to look dismayed by the devastation. Maybe he'll look out
the window and spot Condi shoe shopping at the hospital gift shop.

(I'm a smart arse, aren't I?)

34. Oh great! Now the one responsible is running the show
So Weightman is the sacrificial 'lamb' having been there only 6 months, the 3rd Commander in 5 years.

Meanwhile Kiley has been there all the while and pilloried by all as the 'real' problem. Now Kiley is top dog, yet he is the worst offender.

What am I missing here?
