Montreal's chaotic traffic situation is likely to get even worse starting today after Montreal Transit Corp. maintenance workers walked off the job at midnight.
Although peak-hour service will be maintained by law, transit users who have to travel outside those hours will have to find another way to get around.
The mechanics and maintenance staff voted unanimously in favour of a strike last night.
"If there is a strike, it's because the Montreal Transit Corp. wants one and so does (MTC chairperson Claude) Trudel and (Mayor Gerald) Tremblay," Pierre Saint-Georges, president of the union representing 2,142 mechanics and maintenance workers, said last night after the vote.
