Kosovo to honor Bill Clinton with statue
Edited on Wed May-23-07 10:17 AM by kskiska
Source: Reuters

PODUJEVO, Serbia (Reuters) - Kosovo Albanians plan to honor their "savior" Bill Clinton by erecting a statue of the former United States president in the capital of Serbia's breakaway province.

The three-meter (10-foot) tall monument is still under construction in a studio in Podujevo north of Pristina.

"He is our savior. He saved us from extermination," sculptor Izeir Mustafa told Reuters. "I was thrilled by the work because I know what he did for us."

Kosovo has been under U.N. administration since 1999 after 78 days of NATO bombing ousted Serb troops who had killed some 10,000 ethnic Albanians in an 18-month counter-insurgency war against Albanian separatist guerrillas.

3. Horrible idea just ask the pugs
Edited on Wed May-23-07 10:21 AM by Rambis

Various quotes from the pugs when Clinton did this...

"You can support the troops but not the president."
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"Well, I just think it's a bad idea. What's going to happen is they're going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years."
--Joe Scarborough (R-FL)

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?"
--Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99

" President . . . is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation's armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy."
--Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)

"American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery. Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy."
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy."
--Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W Bush

"I had doubts about the bombing campaign from the beginning . . I didn't think we had done enough in the diplomatic area."
--Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)

"I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our over-extended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today"
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."
--Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)

5. Stupid hypocritical asswipes
Of course, if they had the brains to compare the Middle East and the Balkans...

I could explain it to anyone who lost a child about what the situation in the Former Yugoslavia was all about in about 1 minutes. I'm sure Bill's words would be better.

23. But 9/11 changed everything.........
:sarcasm: 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11

The Iraqis will erect a plain granite obelisk with the letters "GWB" carved into the bottom of it. There, Iraqi pigeons will have found a perfect place to relieve themselves, along with a smattering of Iraqi citizens, no doubt. The name "Bush" will be forever hated, not only in Iraq and the United States, but throughout the entire world. It will join other such infamous names as Hitler, Stalin, Amin, Noriega etc. in people's revulsion when hearing them.

Congratulations to Mr. Clinton, truly a statesman and despite his sexual peccadilloes, a true man of the people.

29. Yet Clinton allowed US mercenaries to help Croatia accomplish successful ethnic cleansing
What I don't get is why everybody here acts like the MSM bullshitting about Iraq never happened in the Balkans. You slobber on command over the unsuccessful attempt at ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, but are silent about the successful one in the Krajina which the US helped to perpertrate.

32. What? No other comments?
If Serbia's (post-bombing, BTW) attempt at ethnically cleansing Kosovo was wrong, then the successful ethnic cleansing of the Krajina by Croatia was wrong. Either that, or both are acceptable.

I just called Agim Ceku a war criminal for his work in helping ethnically cleanse Krajina, so obviously I don't support it. What's ironic is I doubt most people on DU know who the Kosovo Prime Minister is, under who this statue is being erected.
