Bush Spokesman Says

The Associated Press
Published: Dec 26, 2003

WASHINGTON (AP) - Recent assassination attempts on Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf show there must be no let up in global efforts to rid the world of terrorism, a White House spokesman said Friday.
"It's a reminder that the war on terrorism continues," President Bush's press secretary Scott McClellan told reporters in a briefing aboard Air Force One.

<snip>

McClellan said Bush had not spoken to Musharraf as of midday Friday, but he said Washington would continue to support the Pakistani leader.

Don't know if WH releases are LBN anymore. Seem like LB-Propaganda, but I thought it interesting that B*sh has not spoken to our "close ally" who just dodged two assassination attempts - and has not spoken with Iranian officials after a devastating earthquake, upwards of 10,000 dead. I think B*sboy doesn't speak unless he's told to. Takes time to get him a script together. Meanwhile, let's go to Crawford....

(x-treme cynicism)

2. Not just "continues" but thrives
I do look forward to Chimpy's next press conference, designed to cover up for this latest carnage of human flesh, and to discuss the US's "strong" dollar policy, for laughs. It's fitting to start the New Year with a loud gaffaw, and nobody provides the opportunity better than the Chimpster.

6. Does this mean Musharraf is the good guy,
and the assassins are the bad guys? I think BushCo better go back and re-check the script.

Musharraf is a military dictator in Pakistan. He wasn't even elected, he "took" office in a military coup. He continues to support terrorists, and there are many dangerous training camps in Pak. I read recently in an article by Noam Chomsky that the terrorists who were responsible for 9/11 were actually trained in Pakistan. And Musharraf obviously knew about it.

He is Bush's "buddy", though. Musharraf was recently in Washington, where he collected some early Christmas Presents. We forgave a $4 billion loan, and gave him his precious fighter jets worth $2 (?) apiece.

We can be quite selective in our choice of friends around the world. We treat some countries like crap and other countries really well, in spite of the fact that they have terrible human rights records.

We're just really shitty at picking friends.

7. today's ally, tomorrow's terrorist, or both. B*shco plays a dangerous game
of expediency. His shotgun diplomacy is drawing us into a developing anarchy which the west has help promote....

Is this leadership? No, this is not leadership.

9. Then what is the solution?
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 04:17 AM by adityanm
Pakistan is in worse mess than Afghanistan but what is the solution?
We support Karzai who has still less power and has been object of assassinations more often.

Do you suggest sending our own troops to occupy these countries like we did in Iraq?

This again shows that we live in an uncertain world where we cannot control everything.

10. Bush needs terrorists.
Without them his own party would gnaw his nuts off like feral beasts. Is there a Pakistani version of Chalabi who Bush will install as Musharraf's successor?
