3 killed in roadside blast in Baghdad
A U.S. soldier and two Iraqi children died when an "improvised explosive device" exploded along a crowded roadside in the Karadah district of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

Five other soldiers were wounded, some seriously, in the attack Sunday at 10:15 a.m. local time (2:15 a.m. ET.)

2. And our "leaders" over there still have no clue...
<snip>
"This shows how indiscriminate and careless these former regime loyalists are," said Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling. "They don't care who they kill as long as they make a splash."
</snip>

Do they really believe it's still "former regime loyalists" that are behind the attacks? According to them, the supposed "loyalists" were rounded up last week when they found their names in Saddam's briefcase.

As long as they continue to misidentify and underestimate the enemy, they'll continue to lose...

I fucking HATE this war and I fucking HATE George W Bush... :grr:

5. Remember the Five O Clock Follies
Nam

One of the lessons htat Wstmoreland learned, to his chagring was

Just like in Nam we will will EVERY Tactical encounter, but the strategic war.. we are loosing horribly, partly these boys are thinking in terms that apply to CONVENTIONAL war, not a popular NATIONALIST rebelion

maybe they should ask the Brits how bad it got for them in the 1920s. oh never mind, Poodle also forgot that lesson

11. When I was in AFROTC, we were specifically taught this military doctrine..
...after Vietnam: We can not fight a counterinsurgency war on behalf of another nation. Only the people of that nation can fight a counterinsurgency war.

One of the most alarming things about the illegal invasion was the total loss of institutional memory -- did military doctrine change, or was it simply ignored?

15. Someone decided to use the Westmoreland Vietnam play book
All of the lessons of Vietnam and the Gulf War were ignored in Bush's reckless pursuit of his family vendetta against Saddam.

7. I starting to suspect they want the damn war to go on and on
Fuck Peace.

They need an excuse to "Off a few billion or so" to have whats left of the oil, resources for "us"...??? Could this be their ulterior motive? That way they get control of the Planet, the resources, everything. The "Holy War" will give these Idiots a reason to use the nukes, take out cities at a time. I don think they would lose sleep either.

8. Victory is impossible, defeat politically diastrous
...therefore the war must go on. It is important for the democratic candidates to characterize this war for the public as a costly quagmire and failure. Military failure can and will bring this regime down.

For every American killed, there are ten more wounded, with missing or crippled body parts, and permanently damaged pscyhes. This war is a terrible but deliberate tragedy undertaken for political gain and economic profit. The leadership who fraudulently undertook this war should be tried and imprisoned.

9. I really don't know what to say anymore
This news has repeated itself 476 times now, everytime the assholes in charge talk about the light at the end of the tunnel, more attacks, more dead and wounded.

I don't know what it's going to take to wake people up, I'm just so sick of this, sick and discouraged.
I think that's what this bunch of morons are counting on though, for people like myself to throw our hands in the air and say fuck it.

I just hope we have a breakthrough before too damn much longer, hopefully whoever our nominee is will find a message to catch fire with the masses and we can bury these idiots so deep they'll never see the light of day again.

How is it that everyone here on DU knew that Bushco was lying their asses off about Saddam, his intentions and capabilities, yet members of our own congress, INSIDERS for Christ's sake, digested every single lie?

This war transcends the political implications. Thousands of men, women and children are dead. Tens of thousands more have been badly injured. So many lives ruined and for what? WHAT???

Historians, if anyone survives this, will look upon this period of US history with the same degree of shame that we reflect on the era of legalized slavery. We're living through some of the darkest days of our existence as a nation.

Sorry for the rant, but I cannot stomach hearing of the dead and seeing stories of the wounded anymore. Fucking shameful!!!

17. Baghdad Bombs Kill 2 GIs, 2 Children (more buried stories)
Baghdad Bombs Kill 2 GIs, 2 Children
By JIM KRANE, Associated Press Writer

...

Also Saturday night, bombs destroyed four liquor stores in the northern city of Kirkuk. Islamic militants have carried out similar attacks in the past since alcohol is forbidden under Islamic law.

On Sunday, hundreds of mourners joined the funeral procession for victims of the biggest rebel attack since Saddam Hussein was captured Dec. 13. Suicide bombers and assailants with mortars and grenade launchers blasted two coalition military bases and the governor's office in the Shiite Muslim holy city of Karbala on Saturday.

...

Also Sunday, five Iraqis wounded in the attacks died, the Polish news agency PAP reported, quoting Iraqi health official Saad al-Nasrawi. More than 170 people, mostly civilians, were wounded.

...

Separately, France's defense minister, Michele Alliot-Marie, said Sunday the United States has "finally realized the complexity" of the situation in Iraq, including the need to transfer control to Iraqis quickly.
