Detainee dies at US prison in Iraq ("assaulted by other inmates")
Source: Associated Press

BAGHDAD - A detainee died Thursday from injuries after apparently being assaulted by other inmates at a U.S. detention facility in Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

The detainee, whose name and nationality were not released, was pronounced dead by doctors at Camp Bucca, U.S.-run prison in Iraq's southern desert, the statement said. The incident is under investigation, the statement said, without providing details.

In Iraq, the U.S. Army is holding thousands of prisoners at Camp Cropper near Baghdad airport, Camp Bucca in the southern desert, and Fort Suse in the Kurdish north.

3. That's a new one...I always like "shot while trying to escape".
I tell you these watered down Nazi-Lites we call Bushies simply don't have the panache of the originals they love so much (a love that dare not speak it's name in public).

:sarcasm:

military personnel killed this person and then spread this story???

6. Yeah, I'm going to start an investigation, get 3 FBI men to help me
with an operating budget of $200,000 for 3 months (for computers, hotel rooms, food per diem...) and subpeona power.

You'd like to see me prove it? What kind of a dumbass non-sequitur is that?!? Sure, it's in my power to prove it, numbnuts. I'll get crackin' on that right away and get back to you when my team has completed the first five interrogations.

 :silly:

My point was that the amoral behavior of our leaders has, sadly trickled down to our troops, as immoral wars tend to corrode the soul and create immoral actions. I am saying our brave men and women have been ordered to do such bad things in such a mostly bad and wrong cause such that something like this, if not probable, is certainly possible as Abu Ghrahib these boys'll play "shoot, shovel, and shut up".

Have you not been paying attetion to the slew of atrcoities our soldiers have committed, especially as have been coming out recently? Look in Latest Breaking News. Before you get to the 6th page I guarantee you'll find 3 stories relating to investigation in many cases carried out by the Pentagon such as the convoy that ran over the family and didn't even slow down, etc. I understand these things happen in war, but they happen more frequenttly in immoral wars due to trickle down, and this is a deeply immoral invasion and war we are in.

As to my "hatred of the troops", get bent! You don't know me. I happen to BE a former troop. Yeah, a veteran. I guess, a veterean-hating veteran. :silly:

How much do you give to veterans support & causes every year? Just askin'. I'm betting I give more, particularly since anything is more than the nothing you probably give, pal.

Wanna support the troops? Send 'em a care package, help pay the fuel for Dixie Chicks to go out and sing for them, or send 'em a card & gift telling them you appreciate their sacrifice as they lay in Walter Reed.

11. My apologies, and thank you for your service to our nation.

I get a bit hot when someone challenges my patriotism, and it's quite clear I inserted foot in mouth.

It is a pity that your service, for the moment, is in the service of such people, the Busheviks, and in such a poor cause, while Bin Laden and the Antrhax Assassin go free.

What else can I say but that I wish you a speedy and safe return from your next deployment, and that this terrible war ends.

It is no terrible thing to sacrifice life for one's country (see the stories of the 20th Maine and the 1st Minnesota at Gettysburg, to name a couple) but it is a terrible thing when the sacrifice is not for the country or for the American People or for the Constitution, but for a bunch of criminals like the Royal Bushies and for theior misguided asshole dreams of Ruin the World (not so very different from Bin Laden's dreams, in the final analysis...fundamentalist vs. fundamentalist, as it were).

Godspeed and safe return, sanskritwarrior. :patriot:

And yes, feel free to IM me pictures of your next deployment. I'd say hopefully there won't BE a next deployment for you, but with CheneyBush in power there is a 0% chance of that. :-(

8. Im with you!
Its disgusting that they would automatically assume its murder by our troops. Why are we taking hatred for Bush out on our soldiers?

Inmate on inmate crime happens all the time in EVERY prison, so this isnt exactly far-fetched.

Oh wait....the inmates in our military prisons are all wrongly accused angels.....:eyes:

9. Who said anything about them all being innocent
I know right now in my unit there are 3 or 4 individuals that are capable of horrific things........But the slandering of the troops is reaching a crescendo on this site. I had someone call me a baby killing fascist enabler yesterday, I objected, and that person was defended by about 5 other DUers.........The whole thread was erased by a kindly Mod, but it is starting to get out of hand.

10. Disgusting.
Thank you for your service, you are more brave then the rest of us who are arm-chair quarterbacking.

Lets pressure the government to get all our troops home, not slander the GIs. I think there is a "fringe" element on DU here that would love to throw insults at the soldiers any change they get. But on the whole, I think we are mad at the "commander," not the commanded.

12. People are getting angrier, but that is no excuse for saying something like that
I can't condone saying that nor defending someone saying that. I guess I now see a bit better where you were coming from when you originally commented.
