British soldier killed in Basra

A soldier from the UK's 2nd Royal Tank Regiment has been
killed in Basra, southern Iraq.

The soldier died as a result of injuries sustained from an
improvised explosive device attack, the Ministry of Defence
said.

The attack targeted a Warrior vehicle patrol carrying out
routine duties in the Mustashfa district of Basra City on
Tuesday night.

The ministry said next of kin had been informed of the death.

It brings to 164 the number of UK military personnel killed
during operations in Iraq since the invasion in March 2003.
