Huge purple heart rendered in N.Y. field

HAMPTONBURGH, N.Y. - An artist has mowed an 850,000-square-foot rendering of a Purple Heart medal into a park field to honor the 75th anniversary of the medal that commends servicemembers killed or wounded in action.

The rendering, to be unveiled Sunday in Thomas Bull Memorial Park in this city 55 miles northwest of New York City, was done by field artist and painter Roger Baker, whose past works include the Statue of Liberty and Elvis Presley.

According to Baker, the project followed a chance meeting with Bill Bacon, membership director of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. After meeting with officials from The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor and Orange County parks, the plan was on.

The New Windsor Cantonment, in what is now Orange County, was the final encampment of the Revolutionary Army. To honor the service of select troops, Gen. George Washington presented a small purple cloth Badge of Merit — the precursor to the Purple Heart medal.

1. The Purple Heart is meaningless. Anyone who wants one can get one...
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 06:42 AM by IanDB1
At least, according to the Republick Party.

So, the next time you see or hear of someone who "won" a Purple Heart, be sure to tell them that George W. Bush told you that their award is meaningless.

Thank you, Republick Party, for showing us yet another way to cheapen and denegrate our Armed Services.

3. This was a national disgrace.
I just don't understand what was going theough their minds that made this seem okay for them to do. I know they hated Kerry, but surely they realize that by trying to mock him in this way, they were mocking every single young man and woman who has ever been awarded a Purple Heart. Not as many of them were probably from Republican families as they would have thought, but some were, and they were smeared and mocked right along with Kerry and all the Democratic patriots and heroes who received them.

My heart hurts every time I look at those pictures. What the hell were those people thinking? Makes me sick.

4. I mocked a Purple Heart recipient Repuke LimBot with the Repukes' own words.
I think I REALLY upset him that way, too.

Use it.

14. He was a Repuke who mocked Kerry's service record FIRST.
I just used his own party's rhetoric back at him.

Although I did once taunt a guy with a "Vietnam Veterans for Bush" bumper sticker by asking him if he was part of McNamara's Moron Corps, and asked him how fucking stupid you have to be to support an AWOL idiot who has abused the military so much.

He called me an asshole, and I said, "Yes, I am. But I'm also right."

18. Is that why you compared Iraq casualties to traffic accident victims?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=978834#978941

Did you get that from Limbaugh?

Is comparing Iraq casualties to traffic accident victims showing "utmost respect?"

You talk out of both sides of your mouth.

19. LOL nice job misconstruing my words.....
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 11:31 PM by sanskritwarrior
you seem to think I should feel bad for my comparision, I don't it was spot on........ If you have a personal problem with me Tabasco, there is a little button to fix it.......

If not then stop attacking me and engage me in conversation, I have an open mind and am willing to discuss things rationally with anyone that chooses to do so.......What I don't have is a lot of patience for someone that tries to misconstrue what I say for gain, that is a freeper tactic and I think you are better than that......

9. The shocking thing to me is that there was no media outcry
saying exactly what you did as soon as they appeared. This would likely have forced the RNC to remove them. What really should have opened people's eyes was that Senator McCain did not ask people to remove them - he had the credentials to do so and he could have said that it had nothing to do with Senator Kerry. (Bob Dole's response that Kerry never bled was worse, but every Republican who spoke on that stage without commenting should be ashamed of themselve and their party.

I suspect that the lack of media outcry was a signal that "it was ok to smear Kerry this way"

10. It makes me ill to see what the republicans have become.
They gleefully dishonor combat veterans in misguided loyalty to a corrupt party.

There are millions of these gullible people out there and this is a serious problem for our democracy.

17. No kidding. But I've got news for ya - these disgraceful shit-heads didn't
even bother making that connection - that the UNAMERICAN, UNPATRIOTIC, COWARDLY, CHICKENSHIT stunt they pulled with those band-aids was a slap in the face and a knife in the back of EVERY American troop who ever suffered wounds in combat. Yeah. Combat. You know, that scary, icky ol' activity that these same snot-nosed fuck-wads would have run screaming into the night to avoid if their numbers ever came up, when they weren't busy making all kinds of candy-ass excuses back then. Rest assured, NOT ONE OF THEM ever thought that far, or made that connection in their minds, let alone their consciences (assuming they even have consciences).

This was a national disgrace. A HORRENDOUS disgrace. A sin if ever there was one. It hurt like hell to witness this shame, and to realize that I live in the same country as these vile, wretched beasts. I fully admit - I am a chicken, myself. I'm one who would do anything to avoid war for myself and my kids. I've never served, and never hope to. I do not know combat or the perils of the front lines, and I don't even like war movies. But I know enough, as do so many others here, to realize that war is NO trifle into which you go skipping because you feel like it, or you think some deity sent you, or you think it's cool, or you think you're entitled to steal the rights, possessions, or resources of another sovereign nation that didn't provoke you, or you've got a hard-on against some imaginary enemy, or you want your manhood certified, or you have "issues" to face down.

These pieces of shit thought they were being so damned clever and snarky and smart-ass and excruciatingly funny in chopping Kerry down. What they're too stupid, selfish, arrogant, small, and closed-minded to see is that this was a strike against ALL our military who serve, sacrifice, face danger and death, shed blood, endure ungodly pain, and manage somehow to survive.

How Fucking DARE They????!??!?!?!??

:grr:

6. republicons diss our American soldiers who have been wounded in combat
republicons prove over and over and over that they have no respect for our troops (they lie about WMD, Pat Tillman, etc), or for our veterans.

To tear apart Kerrey's record or for that matter anyone who serviced with distinction is unforgivable.
