WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

WASHINGTON — Former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey huddled Tuesday with the Democrats' top Senate candidate recruiter, which could mean he's close to running again. Or maybe not.

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey

A day after Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said he won't seek re-election next year, Kerrey met in Washington with Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

Schumer, a longtime friend who heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, told Kerrey that the contest in Nebraska next year offers a "great opportunity" for the party.

"He hopes I run," Kerrey said after their meeting.

2. I hope he runs too.
I completely oppose his Iraq stance, but he ain't no LIEberman. He voted against the Gulf War, has a great pro-choice record, great environmental and civil rights records. Good labor record. He's a fuck of a lot better than Nelson. Not to mention Hagel (aside from the war)

5. Probably as close to being a progressive
as anybody from Nebraska will EVER be and still have a chance of being elected.

7. Nailed Debra Winger

I don't know how he is still seen in Nebraska since he lives now, and has for a while, in New York City. He is the President of the "New School" (Inside the Actor's studio/Project Runway).

10. I vaguely recall him being one of those not really supporting a Phase II of
the 9/11 report.
then again, all Dems had to forgore that didn't they? just to have the Report done. My memory is poor.

14. Isn't he "our asshole and prick" though?
I think he's the only Democrat who could take the seat, at least that I'm aware of. I'd rather have him than a GOPer.

17. Schumer called him
because he knows that Kerrey is by far and away the dems best chance of picking up a Senate seat in NE. That's his job.

And Kerrey is a mixed bag. If you genuinely wanted to know, you could easily find out his record. Here's a bit: voted against the first Gulf War, strong, pro-choice record. Voted against DOMA and welfare reform. Fairly good labor record. Good environmental record. Unfortunately supports (sort of) the Iraq War.
