Rep. Dennis Kucinich Stands Alone Opposed to Sept. 11 Commemoration Resolution
Source: FOX News

WASHINGTON — Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Democratic presidential candidate and no stranger to contrarian views, was the sole congressman Tuesday to vote against the House's Sept. 11 commemoration resolution.

Tuesday's nonbinding resolution was a relatively short document. It had 12 "whereas" clauses — stating things like what happened the day of the terrorist attacks, who was affected and how terrorists have been targeted since then — and six resolution paragraphs establishing Sept. 11 as a day of remembrance, extending sympathies to families of victims who died and honoring those who have fought in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"It is important that Congress wake up to the truth and exercise its obligation under the Constitution to save our nation from being destroyed from the lies that took us into Iraq, the lies that keep us there, the lies that are being used to set the stage for war against Iran and the lies that have undermined our basic civil liberties here at home," Kucinich said in a statement.

"The September 11 resolution that Congress considers today should have made reference to those matters. It does not, so I cannot support it," Kucinich said, also calling for a halt for further war funding and the troops to be brought home.

While FOX News is biased and a criminal news organization, this article is pretty good at giving some important information on Kucinich to Americans.

For one I draw your attention to this involving the State Department and international campaigning:

"In the Sept. 2 interview in Syria, Kucinich — casting off State Department calls last month for White House contenders to stay out of international politics as well as conventions of U.S. politicians not criticizing each other beyond U.S. borders — described a positive meeting meeting with Assad. He then criticized the war effort and President Bush's handling of it."

Obviously, the chicken hawks and war profiteers do not want Dennis bringing Strength Through Peace to the world and our nation. The other candidates, cowards who do not wish to stand up to insurance interests and now a flawed State Department request, remain at home dressing their policies up, putting on acts, and praying to God Dennis shuts up before a majority listens.

Continuing:

"Kucinich then suggested that the United States should pay war reparations to Iraqis. "The United States must take steps to repair the damage that has been done to the lives of the people of Iraq for the people who have lost their lives," he said, adding that the debate on the Iraq war has been skewed by false information.

Asked if he thought Bush would apply the same thinking in Lebanon — which borders Syria — as he has with respect to Iraq, Kucinich responded: "I think it's probably true, and of course this is part of the tragedy that our president is not understanding the mountain of evidence which indicates what a failure the policy in Iraq has been."

Dennis Kucinich is so far ahead of the Democratic pack of politicians who have no backbone because he is not playing around with Americans' lives anymore---he never was. But Democrats still believe we can correct the policy. You can't correct a policy that has been wrong from the beginning! Not only has it been wrong but it has been immoral!!!

Thank you FOX News for reporting on Dennis Kucinich. I thought Outfoxed was great. But I think this article is one of the best on Kucinich to be released to the Internet in the past weeks by a mainstream news organization.

20. Call his office and tell him "thanks"
thanks for being the only Congressman NOT to wear his patriotism on his sleeve.

Kucinich's patriotism is real. He doesn't need a catastrophe to prove his love of country. The other congressmembers are nothing but showboaters. I'm sure they feel they're closer to god than everybody else, too.

6. That's appalling. A resolution that ties commemorating 9/11 to honoring 'those who fought in Iraq'?
If Kucinich is still on the ballot when PA has its primary, I will vote for him. I took that online quiz last week, the one that asked where you stood on issues and showed you what candidate was closest to your views? It was Dennis Kucinich, 88%. Nobody else came close.

11. I think if more people took a step back and looked at Kucinich,
they would see he does represent what most of us ourselves want in America. For some reason the media has an ability to even get to people, even the ones that don't trust the media. Its really strange? I hope more people think about their vote a little more before the primaries because I feel this going to be one of the most important elections in my lifetime. I hate the fact that I cant protect my family and my own rights by myself, I need help from Americans stuck to a tv to restore and defend our constitution.

Good job by you guys to continue to spread the word about Kucinich, people should at least know what hes about!

42. The resolution never mentions Iraq.
In fact it goes out of its way not to.

H. Res. 643

Whereas on the morning of September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C.;

Whereas the heroic actions of the passengers and crew aboard United Flight 93, which ultimately led to the aircraft crashing into a rural field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, prevented the plane from being used as a weapon against America;

Whereas nearly 3,000 innocent men, women, and children were murdered in these attacks;

Whereas their tragic loss will never be forgotten by the people of the United States of America;

Whereas by targeting symbols of American strength and prosperity, the attacks were intended to assail the principles, values, and freedoms of the American people, to intimidate the Nation and its allies, and to weaken the national resolve;

Whereas the United States remains steadfast in its determination to defeat, disrupt, and dismantle terrorist organizations and seeks to harness all elements of national power, including its military, economic, and diplomatic might, to do so;

Whereas Congress passed, and the President signed, numerous laws to assist victims, combat terrorism, protect the Homeland, and support the members of the Armed Forces who defend American interests at home and abroad;

Whereas terrorist attacks that have occurred since September 11, 2001, in Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, remind all people of the brutal intentions of the terrorists and the ever-present threat they pose to the principles of freedom, justice, and the rule of law;

Whereas the United States has worked cooperatively with the nations of the free world to confront, disrupt, and punish terrorists at home and abroad, and remains committed to building strong and effective counterterrorism alliances;

Whereas immediately following September 11, the United States Armed Forces moved swiftly against al-Qaeda and the Taliban regime, which the President and Congress had identified as enemies of America;

Whereas in doing so, brave servicemen and women left family and friends in order to defend the Nation; and

Whereas six years later, many servicemen and women remain abroad, defending the Nation from further terrorist attacks; Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) recognizes September 11 as both a day to remember those taken from their families, loved ones, and fellow citizens and a day for Americans to recommit to the Nation and to each other;

(2) extends its deepest sympathies to the countless innocent victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, their families, friends, and loved ones;

(3) honors the heroic service, actions and sacrifices of first responders, law enforcement personnel, State and local officials, volunteers, and others who aided the innocent victims and, in so doing, bravely risked their own lives and health;

(4) expresses thanks and gratitude to the foreign leaders and citizens of all nations who have assisted and continue to stand in solidarity with the United States against terrorism in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks;

(5) rejects, in the strongest possible terms, any effort to confuse the war on terrorism with a war on any people or any faith;

(6) honors the heroic service, actions and the sacrifices of United States personnel, including members of the United States Armed Forces, United States intelligence agencies, and the United States diplomatic service, and their families who have sacrificed much, including their lives and health, in defense of their country against terrorists and their supporters;

(7) remains resolved in its commitment to defeating terrorists and their supporters who threaten the United States and to providing the United States Armed Forces, United States intelligence agencies, and the United States diplomatic service with the resources and support to do so effectively and safely; and

(8) reaffirms that House of Representatives honors the memory of those who lost their lives as a result of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and reaffirms its commitment to defend the people of the United States in the face of any and all future challenges.

Others out there must call. I'm contacting friends and family right now.

I know what it feels like to take a stand against conventional attitudes. You're treated as though you're dipped in shit whenever you're amongst colleagues, especially the "holy" ones. I've found, as has Dennis, that even those who hold similar views to my own lack the backbone to follow through and act on their own conscience--that has got to be the very definition of cowardliness.

I greatly admire Dennis, and I told his assistant that he has my vote!!

44. I think a better name for this resolution would be…
“The 911-They Hate Us for Our Freedom Commemoration Resolution.

Because we wouldn’t want our congress critters to forget about the big lies that led up too 911 either…

Such as our foreign policy that gives the corporations the rite too loot and plunder the resources of the world, also known as “Free Trade”.

And our foreign policy that (this is my favorite) pays for and supports terrorist and death squads, also known as freedom fighters, too assassinate and overthrow democratically elected governments, so we can install corporately owned despotic tyrants in their place, Americas version of spreading freedom and democracy.

So there ya go, anyone who does not support Kucinich does not know what is going on in the world or they are being greatly benefited by the political corruptness of which they defend. Which one are you?

I hope that I don’t sound too freeperish or extremist but then it’s not my fault that Kucinich is the only who isn’t afraid too tell or talk about the truth.

He's the only candidate for Pres. I could ever vote for out of principle, even though he'll probably lose thanks to our right-wing MSM which totally ignores him. He was on Ed Schulz today and pointed out that even Obama who claims to have always been against the Iraq War, only made one speech prior to the invasion, and since elected has voted to fund the war every time the issue has come up.

Progressives Should Vote Kucinich

Dennis Kucinich is the one candidate for President whose vision, eloquence and commitments
on the issues can lead us to rise to and surmount the worldwide crises precipitated by the
Bush Administration.

First and foremost, Kucinich is inviting us to stop being aggressive nationalists and start
being brothers and sisters with the entire human race. It's a euphemism to call Bush's war

Bush to attack Iraq. Kerry, Edwards, Gephardt and Lieberman all voted for it, while Kucinich
led almost two-thirds of the Democrats in the House of Representatives to repudiate their own
party leader on it. In the national disgrace of our war on Iraq, the public figure who did the

55. K&R. Excellent post!
DK has been my candidate since 2003 and he can always be counted on to stand up, speak out and to tell the truth, always, despite accusations of being "unpatriotic," and worse. He was excellent on Air America yesterday, was given three hours to present his ideas, rather than the 30-second "sound bytes," that we have become used to. Great post and thanks!:applause::patriot:
