Waxman to probe Clinton files
Source: Politico

In a concession to Republicans, House Oversight Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) has promised to ask the National Archives for documents relating to President Bill Clinton’s Office of Political Affairs.

...

Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.), the committee’s ranking member, has repeatedly prodded Waxman to see if the Clinton administration had done anything similar to the Bush White House’s political briefings.

In a five-page letter to Davis dated Monday that was provided to Politico, Waxman agreed to request the documents.

“You have asked that the committee make a number of document requests of the National Archives for records of the Clinton administration,” Waxman wrote. “The Clinton administration was subject to vastly more scrutiny by this committee than the Bush administration has been, and many of the records you seek may already be in the committee archives."

“However,” Waxman continued, “I do agree that the committee would benefit from requesting copies of any political briefings that the Office of Political Affairs in the Clinton administration may have given to federal agencies.”

1. brilliant
and we wonder why the dems are viewed as toothless, ineffective, __________(insert expletive here).

After we spend TIME (which we dont have) looking backwards at Clinton, can we move forward and look into a rumored break in at an office in the Watergate complex? After we do that can we then look in to making some really nice and shiny hurricane evacuation signs for New Orleans...

2. Tom Davis
Of course! This crooked ass should be investigated for all the shady deals he's done. When he was chairman of Government Reform the Government Reform Christmas party was paid for by lobbyists.

4. Davis making his Repub bones and getting his name out for a Senate run

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=2988075&mesg_id=2988075

Waxman is being beyond fair about this even though anything they do find about Clinton doesn't excuse what we already know about Bush. Sure if you want the "but he did too!!" argument Davis you can have it, I don't think it is going to help you any other than with your base.

3. WTF? How about probing the Bush White House?
Jesus F. Christ! Clinton left office over 7 years ago, and in the meantime, we have the most corrupt White House in this nation's history getting ready to nuke Iran. I want to know why nukes were "accidentally" flown over the U.S. when this administration is desparately needing an excuse to bomb Iran. The Dems need to change their mascot to a zonkey as they've been completely sterile and ineffective in producing anything these past several years.
Oh yeah, and that righteous anger display from Skelton was just lovely. Facist fuck. They only seem to show spine when they're taking away our civil rights.

9. unless Waxman is making the
request for the documents, but has no intention of doing anything -- other than shutting that repug up -- with them. And who knows what door the request for these documents has opened for documents Waxman has been bargaining to get? I always remind myself that nothing in DC is ever as easy -- or transparent -- as it seems.

10. Congress doesn't have the time to pursue impeachment...
but they have time to look into the most investigated administration in history that, by the way, ended 7 years ago! :argh:

14. I hope your right
but considering how little real over site and accountability the Dem's have provided for Bu$hCo I won't be holding my breath while I wait for someone who knows what they are doing to do the right thing.

13. Possibility 1: there's nothing there and this back-fires on the Republicans,
Possibility 2: there is something there and we need to address this problem.

17. As soon as Waxman caved in he set off a never ending
public tirade from the Republicans. They'll say Waxman withheld some documents to cover up for Clinton. They'll say anything they can think of as long as somebody listens to them and Waxman made the mistake of listening.
