Blackmail Cited Over Senator's Project [GOP Sen. Ted Stevens]
Source: Associated Press

(10-29) 16:05 PDT Anchorage, Alaska (AP) --

An oil services contractor testified Monday that he was blackmailed by an employee over renovations at Sen. Ted Stevens' home, an indication that at least some believed the project was inappropriate.

The home improvement project is at the center of a Justice Department corruption investigation into the powerful Republican senator.

Bill Allen, the founder of VECO Corp., admitted paying employees to renovate the senator's house in 2000. Stevens has said he paid all the bills he received.

--
Once a loyal friend and political patron, Allen is now working with prosecutors investigating Stevens and other politicians. After the FBI approached him last year, Allen agreed to let investigators tape his phone calls while he talked to government officials, including Stevens.

1. I really don't know why the Senate is so quiet on this.
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 07:12 PM by Robbien
Two guys separately testified under oath that Stevens is a skunk selling off Alaska assets getting in return pockets of cash and perks.

Crickets are chirping in Congress and the ethics committee is dead left behind some couch somewhere.

3. Oh goody!
Ted Stevens might now need that money he wanted to spend on the "bridge to nowhere." He will be needing a lawyer sooner than later, I think!

5. “I never did say that I would kill him. No.
I wouldn’t have done that … because his mother is my sister.”

And if his mother was not his sister, killing the guy would have been okay?

Corrupt Bastards Club is too nice a name for these guys.

6. This story is so big, fat and juicy. Perfect for a media swarm
All kinds of villains. Lots of color. Plenty of side stories.

The testimony today was only reported in three articles, one of which is Marshall's muckraker's site. Three small tiny articles.

Hell, the guy was testifying today about threatening to murder people over a Senator receiving perks.

8. And the hits keep coming....
Another scandal pops up out of the repugnant party...This seems like the trend for repugnants holding seats or positions of power. And to think, they claimed to be the party of "morals". Whose morals are they representing?

10. Ben and Ted are next after all these small fish are fried. Apparently
there are between 13 and 26 more indictments coming down. It will be snowing in Alaska (affadavits) before too long. COnsider this: These career lawyers and officers are doing their jobs even in the midst of
such corruption. THREE CHEERS FOR THEM! And, there are FBI guys and gals in this from all over the place. They had to individually come and attest to the films and it was amazing how vast this group of feds are on these cases. Think Abramoff too.
