Bush demands Iran explain nuke program
Source: Yahoo News

By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday called on Iran to explain why it had a secretive nuclear weapons program, and warned that any such efforts must not be allowed to flourish "for the sake of world peace."

"Iran is dangerous," Bush said after an Oval Office meeting with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano. "We believe Iran had a secret military weapons program, and Iran must explain to the world why they had a program."

Bush's comments came after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that it was "a step forward" that U.S. intelligence agencies had concluded that Tehran stopped developing its nuclear weapons program four years ago.

1. I just read this,..... Bush wants to know where they got their equipment
Wasn't it Cheney and company who helped them setup the nukes?

come to think of it, didn't we sponser Al Quada?

Didn't we give Iraq chemical weapons...

Ironically, it comes back to haunt us, eh?

2. Yeah, but tell them they'll have to use little words, or Bush won't understand the explanation.

4. All kidding aside....I do truly believe
that practically the whole world is more scared of the half-cocked bush than they are Iran and their non-existent nuclear program.

We must remember the world knows bush is nuts and that he has an arsenal of weapons, AND THAT HE PAYS ABSOLUTELY NO ATTENTION TO A CONGRESS THAT HAS TO APPROVE WAR.

10. bingo
in the worst-case scenario, if the world sat by and ignored an Iranian (or other country) nuclear program for a few years and said country developed both the weapons and the throw capacity and launched, there would be devastation comparable to that in Japan in 1945, and global fallout comparable to what the world incurred for years with above-ground testing by US, USSR, France...

If Israel were at ground zero, that would be another holocaust.

the US response would immolate said country within hours - maybe minutes. Chances of every nuclear power jumping into the fray are very, very low. WWIII highly unlikely.

That is a pretty awful prospect.

In the not-quite worst case, said country would be identified as "nearly ready" and a worldwide coalition would be readily assembled to shut them down. Might be ugly, but probably no nukes detonated.

BUT...

On the other hand, if bush decided to go batshit, the planet could be rendered uninhabitable for centuries

8. Why does the U.S. have a nuke program?
For the same damn reason as they may have.

Sit down and shut up, smirk.

9. Well, in Chimpy's defense, my Senator, Hagel (whom I trust on foreign policy) said on Sunday
that he still considers Iran dangerous, although he accepts the NIE findings--he just thinks the intelligence is imperfect and the situation in Iran is fluid. I imagine many of our Dems agree with that assessment--Iran may still be a threat, just not an imminent one.

17. I dont' know. And while I'm glad that the wind has been taken out
of Chimpy's sails in terms of bombing Iran, I don't fully trust that Iran has the best of intentions, either. They still need to be watched, and have sanctions applied. And we need to start some diplomacy with them--we have a window now, there's no excuse not to talk.

19. What Country does have the Best of Intentions
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 02:35 PM by atreides1
They're all out for themselves, each one has its own agenda, whether it's to bring "freedom and democracy" to the Third World, or to create a wolrd Caliphate, or maybe to just try and get along without resorting to the use of military force!!

Personally I don't fully trust that the US has the best of intentions.

12. Here's a quote from Smirky today
"Iran is dangerous, and will be even more dangerous if they learn how to enrich uranium".

IF??? If they don't, then why are we threatening to invade/bomb them? He's lost his mind - completely.

21. Highly ironic a question considering the US built its first atomic bomb
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 02:43 PM by no_hypocrisy
because of a rumor Germany was building one but never completed. We built a bomb because we might have been attacked first. Iran learned from our example.

22. Chimp is looking for some historical redemption...
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 03:40 PM by syberlion
If Chimpy can root out some "evil" and parade the head of some "evil empire" then he's secure as a good guy in the history books... Iraq didn't work out for him and he's running out of time. the smoke is clearing and the mirrors are either broken or fogged up at this point.

People are looking past him and asking about the man behind the curtain pulling all the strings. However, what's behind the curtain is probably in some undisclosed location...

My concern at this point is having some Black-Ops going into Iran and causing some type of military incident which would be a rocket launched in Israel's direction, or even targeting the Green Zone in Iraq while a high-level member of the Bushanista was visiting. Rice comes to mind, a quick way to eliminate a potential war crimes witness and possibly generate enough hoopla to run full-bore into Iran.

Then miraculously, Bush was right, everyone on the planet was wrong and he rides off into the sunset wearing a white hat and leaves ANOTHER mess, in his life-long string of messes, for all of us to clean up after him. See, that's the thing he doesn't even have to stick around to deal with this! America will be stuck cleaning up after all this mess to the point where we won't have the time or energy to go chasing after his carcass. He'll go to some island somewhere, and if he's smart, renounce his citizenship. With his close ties with the Saudis, I am sure they would welcome him with open arms dealers...

IMHO I really think the Chimp has gone over the edge and everyone around him is doing their best Nancy Reagan to hide the fact the man is completely out of touch with reality. He's completely bought his own trumped up press clippings and those in this illegal administration have a higher level of panic then usual in trying to maintain some semblance of decorum. It's getting harder with each passing day.

I suspect there are more substantive conversations between the leaders visiting and this illegal administration's policy wonks then between the Chimp and those same leaders. I suspect there are a lot of assurances to these leaders that the "football" is safely under lock and key for the time being...

If push comes to shove though, I wouldn't doubt Cheney taking Chimp out for a hunting "accident" if need be...

No wonder sales of sleep aides have increased...
