Bolton: Bush must 'rein in' Rice
Source: Ynetnews

Former American ambassador to UN slams president's foreign policy, says Bush 'doesn't supervise Secretary of State Rice enough'

<snip>

"US President George W. Bush's foreign policy is in free fall and puts the nation's security at risk, former ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton told a German magazine on Sunday.

Bolton , who was a leading hawk in the US administration and favored a tough stance against Iran, North Korea and Iraq, told the Der Spiegel weekly that Bush needed to rein in Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"His foreign policy is in free fall. The president is acting against his own judgment and instincts (and is) under the influence of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice," he was quoted as telling the magazine.

Bolton said Rice's was the dominant voice on foreign policy and that she was a channel for the views of liberal career bureaucrats in the foreign ministry."

23. We have a foreign policy?
 Bombing everyone we don't like back into the stone age doesn't qualify as a "foreign policy" in my opinion. The word "diplomacy" does not exist in the Bush lexicon.

32. Yes, US foreign policy is freefalling because Bolton and the other neocons
successfully isolated the US from all other civilized countries in the world (except perhaps Israel). After seven years of unjustified invasions and occupations, looting, torturing, kidnapping; after seven years of promising to work for a peace agreement in Israel but delivering only spin and photo-ops; after seven years of arrogantly ignoring and even openly violating treaties on nuclear weapons, global warming and human rights; after toppling friendly politicians by strong-arming them into caving in to neocon nutjob adventures (Blair, Aznar, Berlusconi, Howard all collapsed under the weight of their association with shrub); after, in short, seven years of 'fuck you diplomacy', US has no allies left and its influence in the world is drying up and blowing away, like sand across the desert floor. US power is a thing of the past. Which is a good thing, in my humble opinion. Thank you, Mr. Bolton and others, for stabbing the beast in the heart.

And, again, how many times does a lying, psychotic war-criminal need to be proven wrong before he stops getting quoted in the press?

20. "Liberal" career bureaucrats. And "conservative" is......?
--slaughtering a million innocent people to get their oil?

--torturing, spying, detention without trial, ripping up the Constitution?

--a ten trillion dollar deficit?

It's time for "liberals" to claim the word "conservative," because it is the "liberals" who really are conservative: Conserving our democratic traditions including the rule of law. Conserving our financial and environmental resources, with good government and proper regulation (rather than letting war profiteers and corporate predators loot everything in sight). Conserving our core values of non-aggression, war as a last resort, the sovereignty of the people, the "balance of power" in government, and international peace and cooperation. Conserving our highest humanitarian values, such as humane treatment of prisoners, of citizens of foreign countries and of our own poor. Conserving middle class savings by not looting savings & loan institutions and not permitting credit card usury and other loan shark practices. Conserving our fine tradition of worker protections and benefits. Conserving our genius for organizational efficiency in government services, and the technical, creative and industrious energy of our work force and of our professionals in every field.

Do Bushites conserve any of these things? No! They are wastrels and scoundrels--creators of the biggest "Banana Republic" on earth. And Bolton and his ilk are far rightwing RADICAL fascists. They are NOT conservatives.

Not that Condi Rice conserves anything but that '50s hairdo of hers.

Interesting how the Neo-Cons are still using the war profiteering corporate news monopolies to push their radical fascist agenda. Last week, Rumsfeld had an op-ed in the WaPo, virtually declaring war on Venezuela and (unnamed but implied) the other oil-rich Andes democracies (Bolivia, Ecuador), and laying out his plans for removing all remaining "checks and balances" in our own government (such as Congress), so the U.S. can take "swift action" in support of "friends and allies" (other fascist minorities) in South America.

Rumsfeld has not stopped his war on us--and wants a new theater of war, South America, for smashing other countries and taking their oil.

And Bolton? I imagine he's in on Rumsfeld's new scheme. But it's hard to know why he is taking pot shots at Condi from afar. Is it because she's doing such good in the world that it makes him grind his teeth at night? I don't think so. Does he blame her for the failure of the Iran plan? I don't see how. (That was more China and Russia's doing, and maybe parts of the U.S. military and U.S. intel community.) Is it just Bolton bitchiness? Maybe. But it's an odd message: Bush should "rein" Condi in. Bush is not following his "instinct" to torture people and blow them up.

Condi would be--and did--support those psychotic Bush "instincts"--all during the torture and war, and now, in the continuing torture and war, and would support and enable yet more of the same, in Iran, in Syria, in South America, or wherever she could, but she is now facing the consequences of having already done so, in a world that hates Bush, her, Bolton, and the lot of them. There is a diminishing landscape upon which to play out Bush's "instincts." So perhaps this is just a Bolton cry of pain at the lack of bodies to torment and bomb, and the reduced opportunities to serve his lords and masters at Exxon-Mobile, AIPAC, et al. So he beats up on "the little woman" who seems to be the cause of his agonizing withdrawal.

It is a sign of the utter decrepitude of the corporate news monopolies that they give any space to these criminals and planet-wreckers. Why are they not ostracized?

"(Bush) does not supervise her enough. That is a mistake," he was quoted as saying, adding that a moderate foreign policy was a threat to US security.

"North Korea will, for example, now keep its nuclear weapons. And the Iranians have got a signal from our own intelligence services that they can do whatever they want.

"I am not as confident as the intelligence services that Iran has stopped its nuclear weapons program."

The former diplomat, who quit his UN job last December after failing to win Senate confirmation and now works at a think-tank, also predicted a withdrawal of US troops from Iraq if Hillary Clinton became the next US president.
