Clinton, Obama claim $100 million raised

By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton will have raised more than $100 million this year for her presidential campaign, aides confirmed Monday evening, setting a historic new threshold in fundraising.

Rival Barack Obama's campaign indicated it had reached that record-setting mark as well. In a Power Point presentation to supporters, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, said the campaign would need "at least $100 million" to compete in the first 26 primary and caucus states. "Obama will have the financial resources," Plouffe said.

Now I'll simply get my popcorn, sit back, and watch all the hypocrits here on DU come into this thread.

Earlier this evening when it was only the Clinton campaign reporting their numbers, there was faux outrage by the Obamanians that the Clinton camp would raise such a filthy amount of money.

Now that Obama's camp says they've raised the same amount, I wonder what the reaction will be.

1. It's all a question of where the money came from, and why.
Bob Kerrey was no friend of the Clintons until after she arranged for the New School to get a fat Federal contract from the Defense Department. $2300 received from a Syracuse developer is not the same as $25 received from 92 separate people.

4. Actually I would include all candidates of all parties in this.
We spend too much money on elections that could be better spent on real people; those who line up at the food harvest stores for free or low cost food every week, those who have lost jobs and can't find anything else, those who are struggling to pay the bills necessary to keep a house warm enough to live in...

6. Promises made, payoffs confirmed!
Big money rolling in to try and overcome that anti-corporate message that we have been getting lately. Next thing you know, we might become like the 'old time' Democratic party, who knew where the enemies of the people were!

7. Today...this Is The Game.........
If you want in....here is how you play.......high rollers only need apply. Now change in financing limits have been addressed and met with aggressive obstruction.

I would love to see things down sized. I embrace the possibilities!

Today, it has not yet occurred.

So, if you want in....this is one of the requirements. There will be an election and to get in...one needs to throw down the money.

11. This is obscene.
All candidates should have a limit to the amount of money they receive from any source.
Funds are raised beyond the limit should be donated to veterans in need of services. There is no excuse for this sort of money being spent on a power trip when we already have homeless Iraq war vets. :grr:

Radio and TV air time should be available on network stations for FREE to ALL candidates who can get enough signatures on a petition, as a public service. These broadcasts should be aired at various times of day, to ensure that they are viewed by the widest possible audience. Additional air time should not be available for purchase.
