Bloomberg gathering data to gauge support
Effort aimed at analyzing prospects for presidential run, associates say

NEW YORK - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has quietly been polling and conducting a highly sophisticated voter analysis in all 50 states as he decides whether to launch an independent presidential bid, associates said Wednesday.

The exhaustive data collection started months ago, and when the review begins shortly, it will provide the data-obsessed billionaire businessman with the information he will use to decide whether to make a third-party run for the White House.

The scope of the research, details of which were revealed to The Associated Press, demonstrates how seriously Bloomberg is considering running for president despite his almost daily denials that he isn't entering the race. The extensive coast-to-coast research effort shows that Bloomberg is willing to dig deep into his wallet simply to gauge his chances of winning and lining up the proper support network.

1. On Air America today it was mentioned that
Bloomberg prob wouldn't won if Obama got the nom, and probably would run if Clinton does.

Is that the general consensus?

3. That makes sense to me. I think Nader would be the same.
If Hillary gets the nom, she is going to have candidates against her all over the place.

5. And I'm sure they'll all be well financed.
By whom, I wonder.

I really adore outside influence in Democratic primaries.

15. Nader who?
Progressives are still mad at Nader (at least I am) for giving us Chimpy back in 2000. I hardly think he would make a dent today in the election. Bloomberg would be a God send to the Demos. He would split the Repukes vote more so than Perot did in 1992. If Bloomberg enters the race than the Democrats will have the election in the bag!

18. Actually, Bloomberg may well draw just as many Dems...
... and no Christian Fundies, due to his social positions, tilting the election to the Rethugs.

Just speculation, but I've heard others say the same.

19. He will consolidate the corporatist vote, and those that think
the corporatists have the right to run everything.

until you just said it. Did you ever hear of this ticket before?

23. Hmmmm That would be disastrous actually
If Obama and Clinton allied on one ticket, Gore/Bloomberg on ticket 2, and McCain/Giuliani on ticket 3, for the first time we may have a near three way tie. The electoral college would default and the vote would go to Congress. All the above mentioned have many allies in congress so how would they vote?

It certainly would be unprecedented and interesting to see!!

7. I had posted an article a couple of weeks ago about this possibility
I don't know if he's serious, but it's beginning to appear that he is at least seriously considering it.

I'm not one of those in the "he won't do it because he hates to lose" camp. I hope they're right, but I'm not that comfortable simply disregarding him. I prefer keep a keen eye on what he's up to.

12. Probably the most serious and viable attempt to form a 3rd party in the last 150 yrs
This is serious stuff. His coalition will move if the Dems put a weak candidate out there. the target is not the Dems as some would have you believe around here it is squarley aimed at the Neo-CON defense contractor cartel that thrives only in the economic climate of war and chaos. Bloomberg & cohorts are the Johnson&Johnson, Berkshire Hathaway, Sears, general Mills group, who thrive only in a stable economic climate. Although the target is the group I said, the Democratic Party would wind up in all probability just like the Republican Party...havens for the fringe.

Take this seriously folks. Do not be stamapeded into a 'feel-good' candidate by having the attitude fuck 'em If we lose its their loss mentality. Nothing is certain except that the strongest possible candidate must face whoever the repugs chose. Keep always in your mind the fact that their are sufficient morons in the American electorate to have gotten Bush ion twice. Even if the repugs did steal and cheat some votes, nearly HALF of all voters did vote for those bastards.

14. Good grief
I guess NYC wasn't big enough to fill Bloomberg's ego. Now he wants the whole country. Perhaps if that fails he could try becoming president of the world. Or maybe the universe. :eyes:

22. On C-Span today the Gop explained their approach if Blomberg
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 06:59 PM by OHdem10
gets in.

First they will disavow him. He is not a Republican. Then they will
paint him as a Liberal. Really bore in and make it stick.
Once they paint him as a liberal he will take votes from the Democrat.
Split the Dem vote and GOP wins

This is the whole motive of Media. Get rid of Hilary .
The Group of Elites who back Bloomberg also back Obama

Hilary Haters should be happy.

I think this is one sorry sight and a terrible image of Democratic
Party.

I am Edwards supporter but like HRC.

A report recently indicated Boren has problems with the Clintons.

Some lame excuse: Hilary might hurt down ballot in some states.

I say to him--Do you not think Obama will not hurt down ballot
in several states>

IMO, this group thinks they can have Obama institute their ideas
of how to fix the Country.

This shows how clueless Democrats can be in trying to interfere this way.
