Clinton spokesman says campaign knew nothing of Obama photo
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - A spokesman for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says her campaign knew nothing about a circulating photo showing Barack Obama in traditional garments during a visit to Kenya.

The photo in question shows Obama in a white turban and robe during his 2006 trip. The gossip and news Web site The Drudge Report said the picture is being circulated by "Clinton staffers" and quoted an e-mail from an unidentified campaign aide.

Drudge didn't include proof of the e-mail in its report. Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson says none of the campaign officials have seen the e-mail in question. And he says the campaign would welcome any independent reporting that anyone has done on the matter.

Earlier, aides for Obama accused Clinton's campaign of "shameful, offensive fear-mongering" upon news of the photo's circulation.

...used in the same sentence, turned around so quick and just ate up the "news" that Drudge served today, just because it would (oh goody) make a fellow democrat look bad

Looks as if the Hillary people actually checked to see if someone connected to the campaign was the source. So where's the apology?

7. I'm not, but I would at least expect an apology from the people who started threads here
today.

I mean, the vitriol isn't new. But putting forth accusations and then demanding a denial seems like a new low. What if I accused my SO of having an affair, and then demand that he deny it?

20. Where is the apology from the Clinton aides?
Intially Maggie Williams did not deny the involvement but rather tried to divert attention by focusing on the reaction to the photo.

I guess it just slipped her mind to deny it. Or maybe she wasn't too sure she could. She hadn't verified whether anyone had been able to trace it back to the Clinton campaign.

I hope someone does and I hope Hillary Clinton is forced with withdraw from the race in total disgrace. Because that is what she is. A total disgrace.

21. Maybe she was doing a little due diligence
Be that as it may, if they didn't send the picture to Drudge, why on earth should they have to be vilified for not denying it right away?

But quite a few are saying they put it out on the internet and made sure the photo appeared today in the Columbus Dispatch. You figure it out.

He was visiting half his family, ferkrissakes!

Think of all the pictures of traveling honkies we've see wearing local garb, usually improperly and to the great amusement of locals.

Some of that native garb is beautiful.

"it's just beautiful native garb -- doesn't mean he's a muslim sympathizer" -- you give people in this country too much credit, which is just foolish after the swift boat vets and what they did to Max Cleland. Say hello to 8 yrs of Pres McCain, because that is what our party purists are giving us.

Never mind they wrapped the cloth around his red T-shirt and chinos, it looked like a DRESS.

Remind me to look at the pictures, first.

Still, he was visiting his family and he didn't look nearly as stupid as His Eminience did in that blue and gold Chinese silk clown suit.

19. "The Muslims are coming, the Muslims are coming..."
And the African Muslims at that! Only a fool would believe the Clinton campaign wasn't behind this. But then there apparently are quite a few fools supporting her. No one else BUT Hillary would have any reason to put this out there and in the end, it may have the desired effect and cause a stampede of racist and ignorant Democrats to the polls in Ohio and Texas to "save us all" by voting for Hillary.

She can deny it all she wants. She didn't counter the racist comments of the governor of Pennsylvania. Now this. Not all of us are fools.

You don't think the rethugs will use similar smears? You guys are living in la la land if you think a black guy with a muslim heritage is going to get elected president in this country. Look for 8 yrs of John McCain. And why? Because they trained you like a puppy dog to hate the one dem they couldn't beat -- Hillary Clinton.

this will never make it to the greatest.

To everyone who believed it in the first place, shame on you for promoting well-known Democratic haters like Drudge and Politico. You do understand, don't you, that there sole purpose is to divide and conquer.

For the record, I do not support Hillary's nomination. Rather, I am anti-smear.

And he can whine about it all he wants. Not going to change a thing. Obamanaics, you are selling us down the river with this guy. The media has convinced you to support a guy that can NEVER get elected in the GE because they want McCain. There are a million things to hit him with, and this is just one miniscule piece of what is in store.

42. This is what is confusing me about this whole thing...
...and about DU in general these days. I seem to remember a time when DUers would immediately suspect that some GOP operative was behind a smear on a Democrat, but suddenly each Democratic candidate's supporters want to accuse the other's and not even entertain the idea that this might have originated across the aisle. Am I missing something? DU is just too strange anymore.
