White House 'very concerned' about record oil price
Source: thompson financial

ON BOARD AIR FORCE ONE (Thomson Financial) - The White House said it is "very concerned" about record-high oil prices but that there was nothing US President George W. Bush could do to bring gasoline costs down quickly.

"It would be wrong of the president to provide false hope to people who think that we are going to be able to have an immediate impact to reduce gas prices," Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.

"This is something that we're all going to have to work through," she said as Bush travelled to Tennessee for a speech on Iraq and an election-year fundraiser, while oil prices struck a record high of 109.72 usd per barrel.

"The price of crude oil and therefore the price of gasoline is very high and we know it is impacting America's consumers and some businesses especially. And we are very concerned about it," Perino said.

26. You say that like empathy is a bad thing..
Clinton used that term and I am sure it was heart felt, but some need to make a joke out of it. Most that do are Republicans though and that is understandable from their point of view. They are heartless creatures..

7. No jawboning opec to get them to open the spigots?
A lot of the popular support for the Iraq war was based on the presumption that it would cause oil prices to drop.

and get lower oil prices because people were unhappy about paying $1.35 a gallon.

Their lemmings are loyal, adoring, and owned. Just a few words to keep them that way - that's all it takes.

10. Im sure the problem will be worked on hard at Crawford Summer Vacation
Bush will have go bow down to his lord and majesty the King of Saudi Arabia in the middle of the summer to free up some oil so he can lift his sagging poll numbers (which is unlikely to ever escape the teens). That will also be an attempt to help McCain and the RePukes look as if they are doing their best to "help the people".

13. Well he knows how to make the prices go UP quickly
I'm fully expecting to hear that once Venezuela is on the terrorist list, Mexico and Canada will soon follow, with some bombings for good measure just to complete the superfecta of creating havoc for our oil suppliers.

14. Different tune in 99
Mr. Bush was critical of Al Gore in the 2000 campaign for being part of “the administration that's been in charge” while the “price of gasoline has gone steadily upward.” In December 1999, in the first Republican primary debate, Mr. Bush said President Clinton “must jawbone OPEC members to lower prices.”

As gas topped a record level of $50 a barrel this week, Mr. Bush has shown no propensity to personally pressure, or “jawbone,” Mideast oil producers to increase output.

19. Bush quotes on oil prices June 2000.....
George W. Bush Blames Clinton-Gore Administration for Rising Gas Prices
Aired June 23, 2000 - 2:40 p.m. ET

GOV. GEORGE W.BUSH (R-TX), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE:" There seems to be an effort out of Washington to blame me for rising energy prices. And the American people don't buy that. It's the -- Clinton-Gore administration's been there for seven years, we're more dependent now than ever before on energy from foreign sources. And I am amazed that they're trying to shift the blame away from the people that are holding the office. And I resent that kind of politics, and so will the American people."

BUSH:" No, it doesn't. I think we ought to make sure that we become less dependent on foreign sources of crude oil. I'll have an energy policy. But I received a lot more support from people who drive cars, that rely upon -- who want to see the price of gasoline down.
And this is typical of an administration that refuses to accept responsibility. This is amazing. They've been in office for seven years, the price of gasoline has gone up during their period of time."

32. Isn't it amazing that Bush could castigate the previous administration
about oil prices and it helped get him in office, but the current Democrats haven't touched upon his broken promises and the steep increase of oil prices during the seven years he's been in office.

20. He benefits each time oil goes up--- however we all might as well
The bottom line is that Bush and Cheney benefit each time oil goes up. Probably however it is a good thing in the sense that it will shock us into a green world. The best case scenario is that we we get evidence after they are out of office of behind the scenes shenanigans. I learned with Nixon that one's worst paranoia is generally not enough. These characters make Nixon look kindly.

22. Speech on iraq and fund raiser. (Tennessee)
Now we all know how Air Force One is used for fund raising, and cost passed onto the American tax payers.
Bush went to Tennessee to give a speech on his war. While he is there he will conduct a fund raiser.
Flying all the way to Tennessee took how many gallons of fuel, and how many homes could have been heated with that amount of fuel?
Bush has the gall to tell us the American people we use to much fuel, we should stay home and not drive.
Bushit.
We need the change in this country, that is why I will support a new comer. Obama for President, God help him if he gets it, the problems he will encounter and straighten out

25. There is one thing he could do:
Stop putting crude into the strategic oil reserves. This would effectively put oil back on the open market, bring downward price pressures to the market.

Of course, he will not do that, as it would take money out of the pockets of his extended family, the Koch brothers, who administer this unprecidented expansion of the reserves. One of the brothers is married to Doro Bush.

35. Blast from the past
WAYNE, Mich., June 27 -- Gov. George W. Bush of Texas said today that if he was president , he would bring down gasoline prices through sheer force of personality, by creating enough political good will with oil-producing nations that they would increase their supply of crude. "I would work with our friends in OPEC to convince them to open up the spigot, to increase the supply," Mr. Bush, the presumptive Republican candidate for president, told reporters here today. "Use the capital that my administration will earn, with the Kuwaitis or the Saudis, and convince them to open up the spigot.""
