8 from accused in Ohio-Virginia ID-for-immigrants ring

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - A federal grand jury in Harrisonburg has handed up indictments against eight people, accusing them of providing Ohio identification documents to illegal immigrants in Virginia and elsewhere.

According to federal officials, the eight from Virginia, Ohio and Puerto Rico were involved in a multistate conspiracy to obtain and sell Ohio identification cards to illegal aliens.

Officials said 4 of the accused are from Ohio and included employees from that state's Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Columbus.

The indictment revealed Tuesday states that all eight have been charged with conspiring to produce, transfer, possess and use unlawful identification documents. The alleged offenses occurred from January 2004 through February 2008.

The suspects are either in custody or have dates to appear in U.S. District Court.
