Carter Hints at Support for Obama
Source: (AP)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former President Carter wouldn't quite say it, but he left little doubt this week about who he'd like to see in the White House next year.

Speaking to local reporters Wednesday on a trip to Nigeria, the former Democratic president noted that Barack Obama had won his home state of Georgia and his hometown of Plains.

"My children and their spouses are pro-Obama. My grandchildren are also pro-Obama," he said at a press conference, according to the Nigerian newspaper This Day. "As a superdelegate, I would not disclose who I am rooting for, but I leave you to make that guess."

1. No replies?
The haters must be busy figuring out how to smear Carter without making themselves look like bad Democrats.

Too late.

This isn't the first thread about this.

Some Hillbots are already trashing him as one of the "worst presidents ever".

26. Because everyone is on "ignore"?
Is there some limit to the number of ignores I can have? My dumbass list is getting pretty long.

I find that I really want to hear what they have to say. Mind you, it's crap, but I hate not knowing just how crappy it is.

15. and...
He was one of the worst modern presidents ever; however, he is a great humanitarian and the (hinted) endorsement for Obama is worth very much. You could never discredit Carter's endorsement due to his presidency because no one would use it as a current measuring stick.

17. He was the
"worst modern President ever"! Surely you jest! He was ineffective because he was HONEST and truly wanted the best for this country. And, lest you forget, the "October Surprise" where *dumbass's dad, at the behest of Raygun, held off the release of the Iranian hostages, although President Carter had already bargained their release! Worst president, my arse...the one that is running this once great country into the ground holds THAT title, over time! Oh, and welcome.

31. Glad to see you pick and choose what you quote
I never said he was the "worst modern President ever". First of all, "ever" would be redundant (or at least it makes absolutely no sense in the context). Secondly, I said, "one of the worst" and yes because he was ineffectual and some failed foreign policies (viz., in South Korea).

I agree whole-heartedly that Bush Jr. is the worst modern president.

3. I think the biggest of the big wigs are trying to stay neutral.
Gore, Pelosi, Dean, and Carter. Aside from Dean, I think we all know who they want to throw their weight behind, but they are the elders and think that they should let the primary run its course.

19. E, Mahina, I sent that photo to an old friend who's another Punahou mom, and she loves it.
Actually, more of a Punahou auntie since she sent her young sister in law there. She was doing the math and thinks her SIL was there at the same time as Obama, only 3 years ahead of him.

30. Cool!
This pic reminds me of another Obama moment, at Walter Reed, when Barack was all alone, no staff, no press, talking w the vets, listeniing to their experiences. Sincerity, and heart- in a word, aloha.

10. Personally, I don't understand the need by people
to trash someone who endorses somebody other than their candidate, be it either Obama or Clinton. Trying to belittle or diminish somebody who does not endorse your candidate does not make your choice more noble or desirable to others, but it does make you look small and petty. I endorse the right of any Democrat to publicly announce whichever of the two candidates they prefer even if it is not my pick. We are Democrats and freedom of choice is what it is all about.

24. Some of our Hillary Fantasy Group are showing their true colors....
It used to be that Democrats revered its party's leaders. Hillary Fantasy Group members just throw them off the cliff if they don't go along with the Herd....

There is not a better former president than President Carter. Leave it to historians as to how his presidency ranks. But as a man, and as a Democrat, Jimmy Carter has no equal.

The Hillary supporters who bash Carter are pathetic. Are they a cult? They sure as hell act like one.

16. Carter got screwed.
He was actually (I think) a very good and progressive president, especially on the enviroment and energy. If you look closer, the hostage thing, which he wound up taking the blame for was from beginning to end more rightly the property of the CIA, the BFEE, and that loveable bunch of assholes we all love to hate to this day. Just a gut feeling from looking at the timelines and evidence, but Carter was in the wrong place at the wrong time and recieved misleading intelligence from biased sources (where have we heard that before?). Carter looks bad because poppy Bush and his crew want us to think Carter was a big weenie and forget about his realistic energy plans, etc.

Carter was a real human who has spent his after office years in humanitarian service. like Al Gore, he has become something greater than any office would have allowed him to be. Peace on him.

And I bet he knows the real deal when he sees it.

PS I don't see pictures of Carter playing golf with Big Daddy B. He always seems to be working....

It was one of his greatest achievements.

And IMO historians will ultimately judge him as a great president.

23. Good for him
While Carter was a somewhat ineffectual president, he was and is, far more importantly, a good, good man who's devoted his post-presidency life to helping the least fortunate and furthering human rights, winning the Nobel Prize in the process.
