2. WOW
We lost Francesco Scavullo a couple of weeks ago -- what's going on here?

Rest in peace, Mr. Newton.

Julie

3. Rest in Peace, Mr. Newton.

Sad news indeed. He was an amazing artist, and one I've admired for a few decades now.

:-(

ON EDIT: I originally thought this was a dupe, due to the recent news of Frances Scavullo's passing. Why are we losing our celebrated photographers all of a sudden? (Thanks to JulieRB)

7. I have idolized him for more than 20 years and I am................
in my 40's. His photography is wonderful. I have been buying Vogue magazines for 20+ years and they feature his photography on a regular basis. They just did an article about him a few months ago. He was so gifted and quite a character!

11. Reptilian aesthetic
His work is fascist porn, in which women are turned into creepy projections of remote, elitist fantasy -- bloodless, facile, debased and debasing, a cast of Berlin and Park Avenue vampires from whom Newton himself has managed to drain the blood. At its best it has the ability to show us the shape of alienated desire in the modern corporate state. At its worst, which is always, it's fashion magazine shit.

Looking at a typical Newton photograph, I can imagine the inside of Rush Limbaugh's head when he's aroused.

RIP, of course.

12. That is a very accurate assessment of Newton's Nazi Chic aesthetic
Leni Riefenstahl with a hardon

BTW: Your last line made me laugh out loud

15. Interesting
Since he was Jewish and fled Nazi persecution himself.

16. I said that it was an aesthetic...
not an ideology.

13. Interesting...
Was he another one of the Gay Elite who seem to run the fashion world and decide what is sexy for women? I'll never understand why I should take the advice of a homosexual on how to look sexy to a heterosexual male. If they don't have any sexual interest in me, how would they know?

Was he one of those who promoted the anorexic, flat-chested (almost boyish) look in the runway models? It seems they either project that or the 180 opposite look, like Anna Nicole...extreme breast size and whorishness.

14. No
He was married to the same woman since 1948.

His models were maybe 120 degrees opposite. Not quite Anna Nicole territory but definitely not boyish.
