Obama Now Takes The Lead in Superdelegates Too
Source: ABC News

ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: For the first time this campaign season, Barack Obama has surpassed Hillary Clinton's support among superdelegates, according to the ABC News delegate estimate.

Sen. Obama, D-Ill., picked up two superdelegates this morning giving him a new metric to tout in addition to his current commanding leads in pledged delegates, popular votes, states won, and money raised.

Rep. Donald Payne, D-N.J., switched his endorsement from Clinton to Obama and Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., endorsed Obama. DeFazio was previously uncommitted.

With these endorsements, Obama has the support of 267 superdelegates and Clinton has 265 superdelegates.

80. If This Goes...
...to the convention and Hillary ends up with it, we'll have race riots on live television.

And then, the Democratic party will come apart like a Chevy 350 small block throwing a rod.

And then, we'll end up with McCain and maybe another Republican after him. The damage would be so severe, people would talk about it for years. That's what happened after the Chicago riots. It took decades to repair the damage.

Where the fuck is Al Gore when we need him?

Just plain riots. Obama gets far more white votes than black, even though he's getting the majority of the black vote. I think most of those newly registered would be upset too.

....and if the SD's don't end this by giving it to Obama in a couple of weeks, I'd say the corporatists in our Party are trying to make it impossible for our grassroots/people's candidate to win in November....

....this is bigger than just Democrat or Republican; it's corporate interest vs. people's interest....the corporatists vs. the grassroots....who's going to win?

I don't think it's too late to go on the air and urge the residents of these two states to vote Barack and help put an end to the obvious. A vote for Hillary is only going to prolong the agony and threatens the needed outcome in the fall and that is a resounding democratic win.

...how Obama wins two states in the general election which he could not carry in his own primary, I'll listen.

And he has to win them. Cobbling together a few states in the upper midwest won't work. It never works.

There was an article in The Economist about this, and what did they say? Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Cycle after cycle, it never changes.

He will lose. Hillary knows it. Begala knows it. Carville knows it. They all know it.

40. They keep rolling in:
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-campaign10-2008may10,0,2672105.story

By Scott Martelle and Peter Nicholas, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers
9:18 AM PDT, May 9, 2008

The flow of Democratic superdelegates to Sen. Barack Obama continued this morning -- including another defection by a Clinton supporter -- as both candidates turned westward to Oregon's May 20 mail-in primary, already underway.

Four new endorsements bring Obama to within a half-dozen of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's lead among superdelegates, and to within about 170 delegates of sealing the nomination, where he holds a commanding overall lead according to tallies kept by the Associated Press. By ABC News' count, Obama has already edged ahead among superdelegates.

57. "The only reason Obama won is because...
... he's black." - Geraldine Ferraro
... he's a man." - You

It has nothing at all to do with the fact that he's an eloquent, thoughtful, intelligent leader whose messsage resonates with the majority of voters. To simplify the way you've done it is patently sexist. "He only got it because he's a man." In that way, you become the very thing that you claim to despise. My suggestion: A large mirror in a well lit room.

Finally, the most experienced candidate does not equal the best candidate. It's a logical fallacy to claim that it does. George Bush Jr. has 8 years of White House experience as well, while Obama has none. Shall we re-elect Bush for his third term?

Hillary MUST have had the lead prior! No wonder he wants her out!
snip>
We have all become familiar with Senator Obama’s new brand of politics. First, you demand civility from your opponent, then you attack him, distort his record and send out surrogates to question his integrity. It is called hypocrisy, and it is the oldest kind of politics there is. …

It is important to focus on what Senator Obama is attempting to do here: He is trying desperately to delegitimize the discussion of issues that raise legitimate questions about his judgment and preparedness to be President of the United States.

They ALREADY have him figured out! Have you seen the RW Official New Ad? Interesting...

61. Obama picks up 9 superdelegates, union endorsement
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama all but erased Hillary Rodham Clinton's once-imposing lead among national convention superdelegates on Friday and won fresh labor backing as elements of the Democratic Party began coalescing around the Illinois senator for the fall campaign.

Obama picked up the backing of nine superdelegates, including Rep. Donald Payne of New Jersey, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who had been a Clinton supporter.

In addition, the American Federation of Government Employees announced its support for Obama. The union claims about 600,000 members who work in the federal and Washington, D.C., governments.

Obama, who won a convincing victory in the North Carolina primary and lost Indiana narrowly on Tuesday, has been steadily gaining strength in the days since.

65. further down in the article,,,,,,,
The developments left the former first lady with 271.5 superdelegates, to 271 for Obama. Little more than four months ago, on the eve of the primary season, she held a lead of 169-63.

Superdelegates are party leaders who attend the convention delegates by virtue of their positions, and are not selected in primaries and caucuses.

In addition to Payne, Reps. Peter DeFazio of Oregon and Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, two members of the Democratic National Committee from California and a party official in South Carolina announced they were supporting Obama. Superdelegates from New Mexico and Virginia also joined the migration.

So, too, John Gage, president of the AFGE.

"Our people, I think, recognize the enthusiasm and vitality behind Senator Obama's campaign," he said in a statement.

67. C'mon, AFSCME, jump ship -- or rather, board the only one still afloat.
I was a long-time AFSCME member and have been ashamed of its support of Clinton. But now would be a good time for the union to switch.

68. Barack Obama picks up support of superdelagate Rep. Mazie Hirono (D-HI)

Hirono throws support to Obama

U.S. WASHINGTON -- Rep. Mazie Hirono of Hawai`i, a Democratic superdelegate, announced today that she would support Barack Obama for president at the party's Aug. 25-26 national convention in Denver.

Hirono said she decided to support Obama, an Illinois senator with Hawai`i roots, "after watching these historic (primary) campaigns unfold" across the country.

"It is clear that Americans want our country back on a course of hope and opportunity," said Hirono, who had remained uncommitted to this point.

Hirono said she made her announcement "with deep respect and admiration" for Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"She is an extraordinary woman," Hirono said. "However, it is time to unite the party behind Senator Obama and to use our energy and resources to defeat (presumptive Republican nominee) Senator John McCain."

70. AP: Obama overtakes lead in superdelegates for first time
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:02 PM by jordi_fanclub
Source: AP via Yahoo

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama erased Hillary Rodham Clinton's once-imposing lead among superdelegates Saturday when he added more endorsements from the group of Democrats who will decide the party's nomination for president.

Obama added superdelegates from Utah and Ohio, as well as two from the Virgin Islands who had previously backed Clinton. The additions enabled Obama to surpass Clinton's total for the first time in the campaign. He had picked up nine endorsements Friday.

The milestone is important because Clinton would need to win over the superdelegates by a wide margin to claim the nomination. They are a group that Clinton owned before the first caucus, when she was able to cash in on the popularity of the Clinton brand among the party faithful.

Those party insiders, however, have been steadily streaming to Obama since he started posting wins in early voting states.
