Red Cross boat sinks in Myanmar
Source: CNN

MYANMAR, Yangon (CNN) -- A Red Cross boat delivering supplies to victims of last weekend's cyclone sank Sunday when it hit debris in the Irrawady Delta region, as the U.S. prepared to deliver relief supplies to Myanmar.

The four relief workers on the double-decker boat were not hurt, said Eric Porterfield with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The boat was carrying rice, water, clothing and other household items.

The boat was traveling from Yangon to Mawlamyinegyun when it sank near Bogalay town, which was extensively damaged by the cyclone, the IFRC said.

3. It is about damn time
the government "allowed" aid to to get in to Myanmar, there was an NPR report that said there is a 10 day window to get aid in to survivors before disease especially water born diseases set in, we're on day 8 I believe still I have to wonder how many more died because of the Myanmar governments stalling of aid

4. Myanmar Junta Accepts US Aid
In Myanmar, the ruling military junta has given the US permission to fly in relief supplies to the survivors of cyclone Nargis. Officials from Thailand mediated between the US and the junta, which mistrusts American intentions.

Five days after the cyclone ravaged Myanmar, a US diplomat has put the death toll at more than 100,000. The Myanmar junta says about 23,000 people have died, and some 42,000 are missing.

Authorities ( junta ) were more worried about hunting down outsiders that would report what they see as opposed to helping those that will most likely die in the comming weeks.
