Bolten, Miers want hold on subpoenas
Source: The Associated Press

Planning appeals, two senior White House advisers asked a judge Thursday to delay enforcement of his ruling that they have to testify before Congress.

White House chief of staff Joshua Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers petitioned U.S. District Judge John Bates to place a hold on his ruling allowing White House aides to be subpoenaed by Congress.

Bates on July 31 rejected White House arguments that presidential confidants are protected from congressional subpoenas by executive privilege, giving free rein to Democrats who have been trying to get President Bush's aides to testify on the dismissal of nine federal prosecutors.

Without a quick stay of the ruling, Miers and Bolten may be forced to testify before an appeal can be heard, the two said in a court filing. Democrats have announced they would schedule hearings in September, at the height of election season.

14. Umm - it's the REPUKE CRIMINALS themselves who have delayed this until now...
if the REPUKE CRIMINALS didn't try to appeal and sue and delay this, we would have TRIED and CONVICTED well before this election season ever started...

Don't you DARE blame the Democrats for DOING THEIR JOB!!!

3. Scheduling hearings in September is counterproductive.
Do it now. Playing political games with the timing has a funny way of making the whole thing look politically motivated.

5. It's summer vacation. They can't hold the hearings until they return.
It is nice having our reps home for a period time so we can call them dipshits to their face.

4. Pressure is being applied so any guesses whether the judge will place a stay?
I suspect he will and no one will ever have to testify ever until this gang of thugs are history.

7. Given that the judge said there was ZERO precedent for their silly claims
I'm thinking the judge isn't going to issue a stay. His ruling didn't just "reject" but "strongly rejected".

13. 'At the height of the election season'?
What kind of bullshit reporting is that? These subpoenas are long outstanding and the testimony would have been complete a long time ago.
