Obama says help to disadvantaged key

LAKE FOREST, Calif. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Saturday that America's greatest moral failure is its insufficient help to the disadvantaged.

Obama noted that the Bible quotes Jesus as saying "whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me." He said the maxim should apply to victims of poverty, sexism and racism.

Translation: Magoo got fed all the questions beforehand and the buttkisser wanted to make sure the sheeple knew Obama was talking down to them.

11. But the question is HOW to help them

I'm handicapped. When I was growing up, the only government assistance I ever took part in (or even knew about) was Vocational Rehabilitation, which paid for my college tuition. Nothing else. No money was paid to me.

Today I work in social services, and I see too many people who live on SSI checks. Many, if not most, of the people I see who receive these benefits are less handicapped than I am (I dig into this as part of my job, so I can say this with assurance). They get about $600 per month, and they are trapped in a welfare mentality. They refuse to work because they might lose their benefits. So they are trapped in poverty because of government good intentions. Don't get me wrong. I see my share of people who can't work. I'm not talking about them. But it has reached epidemic proportions. When checks are being handed out, everybody wants one. When you give a child these checks, they grow up depending on them, and forget about their potential.

I may get flamed for this, but it's just what I see with my own eyes. Before you attack my statements, know that I support SSI. I have known many people who could not get along without it.

It's a tricky business to give people help. I'm all for programs that move people into the mainstream, but often the result is just the opposite.
