US soldier killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AFP) - An American soldier has died of wounds sustained in a small arms attack in northern Baghdad, the US military in Iraq said on Thursday.

The soldier was wounded when the foot patrol came under attack on Wednesday, a military statement said without giving further details. He was transferred to a medical tratement facility where he later died.

The latest death brings to 4,149 the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, according to a count by AFP based on independent website icasualties.org.

1. Damn! If I haven't mentioned it lately, I hate Bush's ugly useless war!
Condolences to this soldier's family. Beyond that, words fail me. They have for a long, long time.

BAGHDAD, Aug.28 (VOI) - The U.S. army announced the death of two of its servicemen in two separate incidents in Baghdad,.
"A Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldier died at a Coalition forces medical treatment facility in Baghdad as a result of wounds sustained during a small-arms attack Aug. 27," said the first U.S army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).
"The soldier was wounded in a SAF(blast) during a dismounted patrol in northern Baghdad. Aug. 27," it added.
"A Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldier was killed when terrorists attacked a patrol with an improvised explosive device in eastern Baghdad at approximately 11 a.m. Aug. 28," said the second statement received by VOI.
The death of those two soldiers raises the number the U.S. death toll in Iraq in August to 22, including 10 who died in a non-combat missions.
