Todd Palin campaigned years for firing trooper
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 10:29 AM by RamboLiberal
Source: Anchorage Daily News

Todd Palin talked with over a dozen state officials, many of them repeatedly, in his crusade to get a state trooper fired whom he considered to be a bad cop, a dishonest person and a threat to the Palin family, according to his sworn statement given Wednesday to a legislative investigator.

The 25-page statement from Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, in response to questions submitted by the investigator, shows that Todd Palin's efforts started before his wife became governor and accelerated during the first 19 months of her administration.

-----

In his statement, Palin is unapologetic about his efforts to get Wooten fired, but he says he doesn't think those efforts had anything to do with Monegan's dismissal. He said his understanding is that Monegan lost his job due to a "dispute with the governor and her staff over budget issues and failure to fill trooper vacancies."

He also suggested there was bad blood between the governor and Monegan over two other matters:

• An inquiry from Monegan to the governor about whether she once failed to put her Trig, her infant, in a car seat while she was driving.

• The unavailability of a state trooper airplane for the governor's use when traveling to the Bush.

17. Nothing will ultimately come of this
If McLame-Palin loses, the story goes away. If they win (shudder) it probably comes out that this trooper was a really bad apple, the kind no one would want to see with a badge in the first place. Even if it come out that there was inappropriate pressure, the "all's well that ends well" theory says this goes away.

There's plenty to oppose Caribou Barbie on, frankly, I'd say that they've been playing with this like it's some big bad thing to hide keeps people away from juicier stuff.

18. you are basing your opinion on if mcinsane wins...
the thing is, this is not some little issue. if mcinsane loses, which at this point in time, seems very likely, this issue will plague failin for the rest of her "political" career and probably will prevent her from being elected dog catcher.

yeah, there are a lot of crooked politicians, but this woman is by and far represents what really stinks about republican politics.

My neighbor recently moved down to Austin from Alaska. She told me this is just the beginning. Already, far from the national radar, there are other things being uncovered up there that have yet to make it to the national media. That's fine, because after the election she has to go back there and deal with all crap from her past that will drag her down.

That's fine by me.

28. I'm just going on
the observation that after a heated election campaign, charges brought up against the losing side seem to melt away, and charges brought up against the winning side seem to be what the losers hang on to psychologically to get through to the next election cycle.

There may even be an immediate sympathy factor in Alaska for Caribou Barbie, it's possible that Alaskans might feel 'beaten up' by the media, there have been attacks on things like her accent which have nothing to do with her policies. In any case, if oil prices keep dropping due to recession or depression, Alaskans will not be able to continue to get the windfalls they've been used to, and that will make people discontented with whoever is in power.

20. Sorry, I was out to lunch (literally)
I just think that this story isn't interesting enough for the press or public. Some guy got fired, nobody cares.

I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see her nailed to the wall on this.

26. I guess it all depends on if..
you live in Alaska. I don't think people take kindly to having their state taken over by any Presidential Campaign. I think Sarah is toast.

11. I agree with you, other than all the publicity that is.
There will be no charges filed nor any actions taken toward Impeachment. I doubt there will even be any motion to Censure. The whole point was to shake up the administration and make sure they didn't continue in their abusive ways...However if the Report does say their was inappropriate action taken it may open Palin up to a Lawsuit from the one she fired. It would be a Civil Action though and happen long after this election..

3. You know, I'm wondering if Todd is the one calling the shots in that relationship...
And yet, if I heard NPR correctly this morning, "Fresh Air" this afternoon will be about Gov. Palin's rise to political stardom while "baffling" feminists.

I wonder if Terry Gross will talk about the rape kits...

4. Didn't put her baby in a car seat?
I'm not surprised. I swear those children are severely neglected. They all look depressed.

It's also not surprising that Palin would think that the law doesn't apply to her. The self-righteous ones usually don't.

12. Make me wonder exactly when that kid was born
I thought he just fell out of Palin's vagina very recently, after a gruelling flight and a long drive in an SUV.

14. Here's a quote from her father right after Trig was "born"
"She's tired, yeah. She traveled, well, she was at that convention, traveled all night, gave birth this morning, what have you, and hasn't slept today. She's tired."

"gave birth this morning - what have you"

What have we indeed?

Andrew Sullivan's been staying on the topic on his blog.

With the no baby seat accusation, it sounds like the baby's been around for awhile.

She is so weird.

9. You can be sure he didn't answer anything without the advice of lawyers.
He either feels he's on solid ground or is the designated fall guy.

Either way, keeping this story in the headlines for the next 4 weeks is bad for Palin.

16. Oh please!
How fucking stupid does he think we are??? He would like us to believe that Palin fired the states top law enforcement officer because a trooper plane was not available for her and because he brought up a citizens concern about a car seat?!?

Todd...can I can I call you Todd?, Look, douchenozzle, we really aren't that stupid. Maybe up in Alaska that kind of 6 year old lying works, but down here in the real world your shit is weak and your chick is going to jail.

27. When do they address the Workers Comp Bribery case? Both Sarah
& Todd were involved in this up to their necks. It was Sarah who bribed the Workers Comp contractor to deny his claim in order to keep the gov't contract.
What will Palin's penalty be when she's found guilty? What is Alaska law on this?

Hope its a felony, so she can NEVER hold a public office. EVER.
