Obama dares McCain to keep attacking his character
Source: McClatchy Newspapers

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Barack Obama on Friday defended his character against mounting attacks from John McCain, daring his Republican opponent to run as negatively as he wants in the final weeks of the race while predicting that, in light of the financial crisis, "it will not work."

Both candidates responded to the stock market meltdown with new policy proposals. McCain, in Wisconsin, suggested waiving a tax rule requiring that investors begin selling off their IRAs and 401(k)s when they turn 70-and-a-half. Obama, in Ohio, pitched temporarily lifting lending fees and extending fixed-rate loans to small businesses through a Small Business Administration disaster relief fund.

But the dramatic personal nature of the campaign overshadowed those developments.

"We know what's coming, we know what they're going to do," Obama told supporters in Chillicothe and later in Columbus.

...

"Nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division, but that's not what we need now in the United States," Obama said in Chillicothe and almost verbatim later in Columbus. "The American people aren't looking for someone who can divide this country, they're looking for somebody who will lead this country. Now more than ever it is time to put country ahead of politics."

"They can try to turn the page on the economy, they can try to deny the record of the last eight years," Obama said. "They can run misleading ads, they can pursue the politics of anything goes. It will not work. Not this time."

12. Negative ads have never worked on me.
I prefer my candidates and leaders to actually make convincing arguments and have reasonable plans for the future.

But, that's just me. ;)

14. Norm Coleman is PROOF POSITIVE that negative ads will not work.
He just pulled ALL of his after suffering egregious losses in support. He was driving us nuts with those stupid ads, and people actually started feeling sorry for Al that Norm was dissing him so badly, when Al had been so level throughout his campaign.

There are parallels between Al Franken's campaign and Obama's. Al and Obama have kept their cool the entire time. Al and Obama have both reached out strongly in favor of investing in alternative energy infrastructure and helping the little guy. And both have faced vicious attack ads where, to the dismay of the attacker, their lead has increased as a result.

16. Also Senator Wellstone against Rudy Boschwitz in 1990.
That asswipe Boschwitz started running very negative personal ads in the last few weeks and really turned off voters, so Senator Wellstone was elected.

15. Man, I can't wait until he's our President!
The last inauguration I watched was President Clinton's and I can't wait to watch the next one.
I have refused to watch that idiot Bush since he stole the election in 2000.
