McCain plane aborts landing in N.M.
Source: ChicagoTrib Swamp Politics Blog

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sen. John McCain had a little more drama than he might like before the polls closed today.

His "Straight Talk Air," a 737 plane, was on the verge of landing when it pulled up abruptly, circled around, teetered back and forth uncomfortably and finally landed safely at 2:07 p.m. Mountain time.

A flight attendant apologized for the "go around," but said there was traffic on the runway.

12. Interesting. He opposes abortion when the health of a woman is at stake but it's fine for him.
Yes, I know it's not the same thing but I think it's important to remember that these people think abortion is against God's Will, so couldn't it have been God's Will that the plane land regardless of the situation?

It makes about the same amount of sense.

14. It happens.....
...ABQ was probably running operations on the west runway and there was a loss of separation and a potential runway incursion. Crews are trained to initiate a go-around when an aircraft is on the runway as they continue the approach to landing or ATC can call for a go-around to prevent the incursion.

As far as the rocking back and forth, there may have been some wind shearing due to the steady state wind component of 12 knots with gusts to 22. No problem, pilots are trained to overcome this encounter.

In any event, no fouls and everyone was alright.

17. I'm not a pilot but,
I fly a lot into that airport. I hate it when we come over those mountains and drop like a stone to hit the runway.

28. Pretty disgusting
You know I am fighting for Obama and as many Democrats as are on my ballot and beyond but some of these comments are really disgusting.

I think we as Democrats and like-minded Independents, Republicans and others who frequent this site are better than that.

I am thankful that John McCain and others on his airplane are safe and can continue with their lives. We need to show the kind of compassion, care and concern that we claim we possess and wish the other side did as well. But some of these comments border on being offensive. Let's not make light of something that could have been a serious disaster.

It is definitely not something Obama would do and something for those people of faith that Jesus would not condone either.

Let's rise about the pettiness and savor our hard-earned victory tonight!!!!
