1. She better be all business & go after some crooks
Charlie Gaspirino of CNBC said she was part of the problem @ the SEC, I take him w/ a grain of salt, but again she better be the REAL deal or Obama is letting "main street" d-o-w-n.

3. I thought I was clear that I didn't
value his opinion.

Shapiro better be the nation's no#1 financial cop & not a politcal appointee w/ a "D" on her sweater.

4. Obama to name Mary Schapiro as SEC chief
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 08:19 PM by cal04
President-elect Barack Obama is set to name a veteran financial regulator to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, two Democratic officials told CNN on Wednesday.

Mary Schapiro is currently chief executive of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the largest non-government regulator for securities firms that do business with the U.S. public.

As SEC head, she would replace Christopher Cox as chair of the nation's main watchdog over publicly traded companies when the new administration takes office in January.

The appointment is subject to approval by the Senate.

6. She is compromised, Why would Obama mess around w/ this post
w/ the Madoff scandal fresh in America's conscience?

She is on Rand Corporations Board of Ethics!

"Ms. Schapiro serves on the RAND Corporation's LRN-RAND Center of Corporate Ethics, Law and Governance Advisory Board."

7. It's a cronyism appointment in a fascist system of U.S. government
She's a "known known" as war criminal dumbsfeld said. She's also a disaster for every American who has no intention of "regulating" anything.

10. Can Mary Schapiro Save the S.E.C.?
Mary Schapiro, a veteran and diligent regulator if ever there was one, is reported to be Barack Obama’s choice to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, Floyd Norris, The New York Times’s chief financial correspondent, writes on his blog, Notions of High and Low Finance. It is a choice that should please those who hope the S.E.C. can recover from what must be the worst year in its history, Mr. Norris says.

Ms. Schapiro, who has been around Wall Street regulation for decades, will have to take a leading role in shaping the new regulatory system to replace the one that failed so badly, Mr. Norris says.

The bank regulators also have much to answer for, and it was the Federal Reserve that championed doing nothing about the shadow financial system that has now brought down the economy, he writes. But somehow the Fed has emerged as likely to take control of the regulatory apparatus when it is redone, while the S.E.C. has lost clout and reputation, Mr. Norris says.

11. This is from a WSJ article
"Out of the gate, Ms. Schapiro faces potential controversy. In 2001 she appointed Mark Madoff, son of disgraced financier Bernard Madoff, to the board of the National Adjudicatory Council, the national committee that reviews initial decisions rendered in Finra disciplinary and membership proceedings."
