Mika Brzezinski Mugged In Washington
Source: The Huffington Post

"Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski was mugged outside her Washington, D.C. hotel Thursday morning, her co-host Joe Scarborough announced on their program. The Washington Times' Christina Bellantoni writes about the announcement, which Scarborough delivered while Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty guested on the program:

As the show began, Mr. Scarborough blasted Washington without naming the hotel, saying he needed to talk about what had just happened to his co-host.

Mrs. Brzezinski said she was embarrassed and didn't want him to tell viewers about the experience, but he detailed the mugging and complained the bell desk should have been paying attention.

"A guy walks across the street straight for her," Mr. Scarborough said, adding the hotel should "at least police five feet outside their own doors." Mrs. Brzezinski said she gave the mugger the $6 in cash she had with her, adding that he asked her for $20 and said something along the lines of "Give me money and nothing will happen."

2. It's a shame that this happened.
But one would think that fighting back on her own show would help her fight a mugger in the real world. She might want to practice.

3. Does McCain have an alibi? He was angry with her for being "in the tank for Obama"
on a serious note, it is a shame that no one is safe anymore, not only in DC but anyplace in our country. I expect things to get worse as desperate times exacerbate due to the poor economic condition in our country.

4. That's really awful. I don't care for Mika but it's pretty outrageous that she's mugged
right in front of the hotel.

She should wait for her car or the cab and have someone escort her to it, a couple of big bellhops maybe. That early in the morning this time of year means it is completely dark.

If I were Mika I would have asked the hotel for an escort. Hell yes.

16. Um, mmmmm, ah, uhh YEAH.
:puke:

And of course, despite her asking Scab several times not to talk about it, he steamrolled right over her protests.

The faces she makes remind me of a little child. She even said she's "in trouble with her parents now." That woman has issues.

Now if someone is mugged in DC, they can shoot the mugger.

8. Calling that a "mugging" is a bit of a stretch
In my opinion that doesn't sound like a mugging - that sounds more like an especially aggressive panhandler. She didn't call the police?

In my own limited experience I have found panhandlers in DC to be uniquely creative and almost always give an interesting story or tell a good joke in the process of soliciting. New York panhandlers seldom have time (or inclination) for such "niceties" and come off more aggressively. Perhaps her "mugger" was a transplant?

14. That's funny. I live in the DC area - the only people I see telling stories for $ are scam artists
Common favorites in the DC area: All delivered by people generally wearing clothes that are neatly pressed and equivalent to business casual.

I'm "x" cents short of being able to leave the metro - (the metro staff will let you out if you don't have the money)

I'm "x" short of being able to buy a ticket to the metro - (said while not standing anywhere near a metro ticket machine)

My favorite - My car just ran out of gas and I need money for fuel - (said while standing in the general area of a gas station but nowhere near a car or in possession of a portable gas tank).

Walk along M Street to Georgetown, anywhere in the office/lobbying district or along Adams Morgan. You'll see what are likely legitimate panhandlers in that area and they won't win you over with their charm.

11. That doesn't really sound like a mugging...
That sounds like a panhandler that she got scared of.

I'm sorry but muggings don't happen in front of well lit hotels.

I've had friends who were mugged, and it involves violence or threat of bodily harm with a weapon.

In any case, I'm sorry she felt threatened and victimized.

DC has a lot of homeless people and a lot of problems. But on the whole it's a good city to visit and a nice place to live.

Barack Obama has pledge that he'll try to focus on improving the city while he's in office. That gave my heart great joy to hear an elected official say something about improving the city where he'll serve.

13. Christ....I get that on a daily basis
That is hardly a mugging. This is what happens when the rich fucks step out of their gated communities. They've got a warped sense of reality. Did this person even touch her or was she just scared by his/her gritty look?

It's probably some publicity stunt for their stupid new radio show. I hate those two.

18. Took the words right out of my mouth

If this is being 'mugged', then I guess I've been for years now and almost daily. These people are so insulated that when they do step out of their little bubbles they think they're being 'mugged' when this is what millions of city dwellers experience on a near-daily basis.

Ridiculous.

Edited for typos -- not enough coffee yet.

15. "Some People" say / Fox is reporting
she had a big "M" carved into her cheek, but it's upside down so it reads "W" -- which could be taken as homage to Bush, perhaps a parting gift of sorts.

While Joe is attempting to tie this to Obama, seeing as he has an M in his name, police are waiting for more evidence before making any determinations about the M girl.

(PS I'm sorry she was scared and glad she's OK)

23. So he asked her for money and gave she gave it to him and that equals a mugging?
The snip also said he mumbled something to her about if she gave him money, nothing would happen? However, they are not sure exactly what was said? Gee, wasn't he a polite criminal. Muggers around here would just grab you purse and run, or just shoot you for the hell of it. I'm really impressed with Washington D.C's criminal element's manners.
