Palin won't accept raise
Source: Anchorage Daily News

Gov. Sarah Palin didn't ask for a pay raise and won't accept one during her current term, a spokesman said Wednesday.

A new state commission appointed by Palin recommends boosting the governor's pay from $125,000 to $150,000. The State Officers Compensation Commission says the lieutenant governor, department heads and legislators need more money too.

But if the commission pushes ahead with a pay raise, Palin won't accept the money, said spokesman Bill McAllister.

"Her view is, it's just not appropriate to accept a pay raise in the middle of the term."

Palin's term ends in 2010.

Wonder if she would have accepted if she wasn't in the national spotlight?

4. I'd lay down good money...
...she arranged for them to offer the raise just SO she could publicly turn it down. They are her appointees after all.

6. I agree - a publicity stunt -
AND, if she took the raise, she would have to give up the per diem B.S. - WITHOUT the raise, she comes out ahead if she continues to get the per diem for working from her home.

12. now, now fellow DUers, be fair
Did you hear what she said? Come one! The pitbull isn't trying to get publicity! It's about the American people or something!

"Americans from Real America are wantin' of Americans to progress this great nation forward. Glad to be found innocent of any wrong doin there on the part of the gotcha media, and again, also, those weren't my clothes there in the belly of the plane again, don'tcha know, would be not in the term where we are gettin' in there and makin' a budget here, also, again - here, as a fiscal conservative, slashin' the budget, my own pay, there, reforming the good old boy network! you betcha!....the tanning bed and the renovations there are, are not costly to the people in terms of dollars spent you see paid those before again...also, those are for health reasons for the staff. they're tough here in Alaska but we like to help 'em out with a little..oh, I don't know..things. Also...Not always talkin' about the negative, there. again. Also, Alaskans buildin' the great pipleine, 80 percent of the nation's energy there. So, again, no, I didn't ask for anything but a Dr Pepper so no, I'm a reformer. You betcha. I said thanks but no thanks to that raise from nowhere!"

She means it with all her heart.

14. Well good for her...
...seriously.

I still don't like her, not even a little bit. And her motives may not be pure -- most likely aren't. But it's the right thing to do, and I'm glad she did it.

15. She's giving it back because
she already charges the state the equivalent for per-diem for her entire family, while she works out of her shady contractor-enhanced house. :eyes:

16. that 150,000 in clothes allowance will push her into another tax bracket
well, that is if she reports it - plus all the boondoggles of charging per diem while staying at her own house, she is already raking it in

20. Her $7 million dollar book deal is in the works.
So not sticking the Alaska tax payer for another $25K is hardly noble.
