Israeli government says military offensive in Gaza will continue despite UN resolution
Source: ABC News

Israel's government says it will press ahead with its military offensive in the Gaza Strip despite a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office says the military "will continue acting to protect Israeli citizens and will carry out the missions it was given."

The statement says Palestinian rocket fire Friday shows the Security Council's call for a cease-fire "is not practical."

The statement is the first official Israeli response to the council's resolution calling for an "immediate" and "durable" cease fire. The council passed the resolution 14-0 late Thursday.

3. Title at link: Israel, Hamas Defy UN Call for Cease-Fire
"Israel and Hamas launch more attacks, defying UN call for cease-fire"

"A Hamas spokesman said the Islamic militant group "is not interested" in the cease-fire because it was not consulted and the resolution did not meet its minimum demands."

Doesn't sound like either side is interested in a cease fire now, unless they get to determine the provisions. As I understand it, Israel accepted the Egyptian/French cease fire proposal, but reject the UN. Hamas, AFAIK, has rejected both. Hopefully, new or modified cease fire proposals will be acceptable to, or forced upon, both parties ASAP.

5. Nobody listens to the UN unless they have to
They only have to when the UN has the global US military able to bomb you if you don't listen. The global US military is currently occupied in the individual interest of only one government.

That's the problem with the UN. It's just a bunch of individual nations acting in their own interests, and not pooling their resources in a single organized effort. That's why the US can go to war against any nation it chooses, and the UN can do nothing to stop it. There's no global infrastructure to implement any of these UN resolutions.
