Iraqis march against Israel, cleric wants revenge
Source: Reuters

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of Iraqis protested against Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip on Friday and powerful Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr called for revenge attacks on the Jewish state's strongest ally the United States.

Protesters waved Palestinian flags and burned Israeli and U.S. flags in the Baghdad Shi'ite slum of Sadr City after Friday prayers. Smaller protests were held and anti-Israeli sermons delivered in the Sunni Adhamiya district, the Sunni city of Falluja and the holy Shi'ite city of Najaf.

"Death to Israel, death to America, Israel's partner in attacking Gaza," the Sadr City crowd chanted, after a message from Sadr was read to them, calling for solidarity with Gaza.

1. Now it's more clear to me why Bush and friends have sanctioned this massacre.
They want to piss enough muslims off so there can be an all out "holy war"?

Then they can take over the whole region, slaughtering as they go.

2. Blowback, but hey United States, lets ignore our actions and keep up the same old
"special" relationship with the Israeli government, it has worked sooo well.

3. Let see how quickly popular support for Israel sinks...
when American troops in Iraq start dying for our enabling of Israels actions.

5. Israel is painting itself in a horrible corner
This is from the Reuters article, which I never knew:

"Iraq hosted some 30,000 Palestinian refugees before the U.S.-led invasion. Many of them found themselves victim of attacks of threats once the war began, partly because they were seen as clients of the deposed leader Saddam Hussein"

6. it's been horrible.
we're not winning any allies in iraq with israel's attack -- it makes our job more difficult both on the ground and in diplomatic circles.

nobody is winning here -- and the poorest are suffering the most.

(Both the US and Israel)

8. They seem to have the same "Liberty" today to burn American flags as they did under Saddam.
America is still the most hated country of Iraq. Woman are no where near as free now as they were under Saddam. Iraq was a Secular nation before America destroyed much of it. That is no longer the case.
