Huffington Plans Investigative Journalism Venture.
Source: AP/NYT

'The Huffington Post said Sunday that it will bankroll a group of investigative journalists, directing them at first to look at stories about the nation's economy.

The popular Web site is collaborating with The Atlantic Philanthropies and other donors to launch the Huffington Post Investigative Fund with an initial budget of $1.75 million. That should be enough for 10 staff journalists who will primarily coordinate stories with freelancers, said Arianna Huffington, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post.

Work that the journalists produce will be available for any publication or Web site to use at the same time it is posted on The Huffington Post, she said.'

1. Promising, very promising.
This is the kind of new initiative we need to replace thedegenerate old news media, both hard copy and boob toob.

4. just as long as they don't lose credibility along the way, this is great

the minute folks smell any kind of bias or slanted reporting, it'll lose its luster. At least their direction of investigation can be aimed in a direction, it's the reporting that is done from it that will have to be stellar

Good idea too.

11. Oh, that will look swell with the shock and naked people articles at the Post.

The world will swoon with respect.

I love how often they work the words porn, naked, and decapitation into article headlines.

15. Someone else is doing it already

I can't remember the name of the web site, but they started up a while back. They're hiring laid off newspaper reporters to carry out the investigations.

Here's a talk on online investigative reporting:

16. They used to make movies about reporters...
who actually did amazing jobs of investigative reporting.

Now many or most reporters seem to feel they've
reached their pinnacle of professionalism when they appear
somewhere, with someone in People magazine.

17. Yay! It's a good start. And about time.
Hope it evolves into a news service to rival and shame AP and Rooters, but done as a non-profit with no corporate backing.

Set the standard for investigative reporting with no conflict of interest in ownership and no distortional blending of news and editorials and advertising.

And no government propaganda please, make it a more serious crime, why don't we?
