Romney Working on 2012 Election Bid
Source: AP

BOSTON – Mitt Romney doesn't have a job for the first time in his adult life. That hardly means he's not working.
In ways both subtle and overt, the 2008 Republican presidential contender, former Massachusetts governor, one-time Olympics chief and high-flying businessman is building toward a 2012 White House campaign by judiciously engaging and disengaging with the national debate.
On Tuesday, he's in Chicago to speak at a fundraiser for a prospective state treasurer candidate. On Wednesday, he's in Washington to headline a fundraiser for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. On Thursday, he's again the keynote speaker at a fundraising dinner for Republicans in New York City.
After that, he's heading back to his oceanfront home in La Jolla, Calif., to continue writing newspaper columns and a political book. Based on the '60s tome "The American Challenge" by Frenchman Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber, it will be aimed at shaking American economic and political complacency, he said.

3. I Know People Think Mitt is an Airhead,
but he really isn't, and he scares the crap out of me.

Obama better do a good job as president or we are screwed.

20. He Really Does Worry the Crap Out of Me.
One can ridicule his being Mormon, but the fact is he's very telegenic and can even put words into a coherent sentence.

He didn't get to be filthy rich by heredity or crookedness alone.

18. Romney was an utter failure as Governor of Mass
That's all we have to know.

He screwed the state like Bush screwed the nation. And he left the state to a young idealistic black guy to clean up.

Sound familiar?

touched, but that didn't stop him and the Republicans from stealing--er, "winning"--the White House twice.

23. Blame the press for not doing their job in 2000. and
Blame the Supreme Court for not doing THEIR job.

Blame Floridians, of all stripes, for not doing THEIR job.

There's plenty of blame to go around for the last 8 years of hell.

Most posters here seem to be people born 17 years ago... they simply don't remember 2000 and how utterly stupid the USA looked that year after the elections that selected the guy with 500,000 LESS votes than Gore to be our worst President ever.

Going from Bush, the worst, now everyone here is an expert on how Obama is not quite perfect.

Geeze, this place is almost as bad as that Free Republic place, where they still think Bush was a Godsend.

4. Sorry, Mittens. Palin/Jindal are an unstoppable force.
Until they face Obama where they will lose by 30+ points.

You would only lose by 15+ points, but ONLY if you beat the odds of a Mormon getting the GOP Nomination.

Rank and file Republicans hate Mormons almost as much as they hate Catholics.

24. There are more Catholic Democrats than Republicans. Always have been.
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 12:15 AM by onehandle
It is rare (maybe 1 out of 7) that they swing Republican in election year.

They had been trending more Republican recently, but like the country are trending back to us now.

Gore won them in 2000, not Bush. And Obama won them in 2008.

DU is pretty uneducated about Catholics. Not so borderline hate speech is used against them.

Oh, and the GOP core? They hate hate hate Catholics. Much like DUers do.

Fundamentalism comes in all forms.

28. I agree for the most part
I was raised Catholic, though I'm now an atheist. I agree about many of the comments here...that's why I thought it was odd to say that Republicans hate Catholics, because it seems like progressives don't have any better of a track record there. I agree that people that were just raised Catholic or have a loose affiliation with the church may very well be majority Democrat, but speaking from personal experience, everyone I know (with one exception) who's a devout Catholic is also a hardcore right-winger.

Catholics here in Atlanta proper are Democrats mostly.

Out in our suburban Hellholes, not so much.

12. Oops
That's the way Bush says it isn't it. LOL! Since Mittens is Mormon and since the Mormons were behind Prop 8 it is very important to expose this asshole for what he is. And dog lovers should know what he did too. He's more like Clark Griswold with magic underwear.

17. ooops.... now you've done it
Making light of Romney's temple garment is strictly taboo here on DU. Expect to get pummeled. I got beat up like a pinata at a birthday party for daring to do so during the primaries. Repent, and quickly. From one who's been there.

10. 2012 will probably be his last shot
If the economy isn't doing better, Romney will have a good shot at being the GOP nominee. If the economy has improve and we're out of Iraq, Obama will be hard to beat. In this case, they'll put forth a sacrificial lamb, likely Palin.

13. I feel sorry for the guy....
So long as the GOP is connected at the hip to the wing-nut bat shit crazy anti-scientific dark age evangelical fundamentalist, there is no way they will ever elect a "cult member" (their term to describe Mormons) to the ticket. They would rather put a ticket up of Palin and Jindal and have EPIC FAIL.

With his experience in business I'm not sure Obama would have defeated him.
