Bush Says Democrats Offer Bitterness, Anger
Mon February 23, 2004 10:51 PM ET

By David Morgan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - After months on the defensive over Iraq, job losses and his military record, President Bush plunged into the 2004 campaign on Monday by accusing Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry of waffling on issues from Iraq to NAFTA.

Bush made his first direct mention of the Massachusetts senator in a 40-minute speech at a Republican Governors Association fund-raiser in Washington in which he repeatedly invoked the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and drew chants of "Four More Years!" from over 1,400 attendees.

The president said the Democratic primary race included candidates who were "for tax cuts and against them, for NAFTA and against NAFTA, for the Patriot Act and against the Patriot Act, in favor of liberating Iraq and opposed to it. And that's just one senator from Massachusetts."

Bush never mentioned Kerry or the Democratic front-runner's main primary challenger, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, by name. But he said voters in November would have a clear choice: "It's a choice between an America that leads the world with strength and confidence -- or an America that is uncertain in the face of danger."

In reaction, Kerry issued a statement that accused Bush of ignoring his own "failed record" and suggested the president's "credibility is running out with the American people."

We have at least 500 reasons and more. If you could grab him by the collar and shove his face in front of every dead soldier and say LOOK you stupid idiot, this is what your so called leadership has done and for what? If we could grab him by the collar and take him to the nursing homes to actually see the damage his poor decisions made on senior citizens we would. There are many reason to be angry, and all boil down to one , we are angry at his poor decisions, we don't hate the man we hate the poor decisions he has made that have taken America down the wrong path. if he were a young child he would need to be put over someones knee to drive home the consequences of his poor decisions, unfortunately; as with all spoiled brats, he never had to learn the consequences from making poor decisions, he always had mommy and daddy to bail him out. People grow by facing the consequences, bush never grew up, and he certainly hasn't grown any while being in office as the media protected him too much. We have an ignorant child like person running the country, one that speaks like a child, fights like and child and has all the childish ways about him - it's time America puts these childish ways behind us.

72. Yes, we are angry that: this nation was taken to pre-emptive war in the
absence of an imminent threat; irresponsible fiscal and tax policies are damaging the overall strength of our nation by wreaking havoc on the economy and the value of the dollar; and the environment is being savaged solely for corporate greed. We are also bitter that our Bill of Rights has been trashed.

74. Shrub Time: A Judge, A Renomination and the Cross-Burning Case That Won't
http://www.loper.org/~george/archives/2003/May/861.html

"On a cold January night nearly 10 years ago, the usual crowd of young white men and their girlfriends were hanging out across the road from the Thomas convenience store here as they did most nights, warming themselves with liquor and the heat from a 55 gallon drum burning scrap wood.

Someone brought up the subject of Brenda and Earl Polkey, a local interracial couple, and there was general agreement they were not welcome in improve. Three of the men decided that burning a large wooden cross on the couple's front lawn might encourage them to leave.

51. Now Nile. You know which judges.
Since taking office, Bush has appointed one polarizing ideologue after another.

His appointmentments have been divisive and intemperate.

And in two cases have defied the will of the U.S. Senate.

The New York Times has railed against this in their editorial pages.

-- the defense of Dubya's court appointments and nominees, so give me a moment to adjust.

There. Now, for one thing, you need to probably read a newspaper about this subject for the last two or three years. Libraries will help cull pertinent articles from the grand pile.

Next, examine the records of Dubya's appointments and nominees.

I stand by my statement: they are hate-mongers.

Isn't it better to know and understand who the real enemy is rather than going off crazy after the wrong people. Taking action is not a good thing if it's the wrong action. Action through arrogance, ignorance, and manipulation is not what we need to support.

6. What is the world coming to? I agree with Bush on something!
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 01:06 AM by socialdemocrat1981
<It's a choice between an America that leads the world with strength and confidence -- or an America that is uncertain in the face of danger." >

I totally agree with this statement. A choice for a Democratic Administration in 2005 will ensure that America leads the world with strength and confidence for a considerable period of time to come and will ensure a better future for our children.

A vote for Bush will ensure four more years of America being uncertain in the face of danger –as exemplified by this Administration’s inept bumbling in the months leading up to 9/11 and its ability to become distracted with a needless and unnecessary war in Iraq while ignoring the main threat of terrorism coming from countries such as Saudi Arabia and pursuing a contradictory foreign policy in so many key areas

<"The actions we take, and the decisions we make in this decade, will have consequences far into this century. If America shows weakness and uncertainty, the world will drift toward tragedy," the president said.>

As exemplified by your vacilitating ineptitude in the months leading up to 9/11

13. Uncertainty in the face of Danger...
2000, Clinton advises Bush that al qaeda is going to be biggest challenge -- Bush says, Attack IRAQ!

9 11 2001 Saudis fly planes into WTC, Pentagon...First escort bin Laden's home then-- Attack Afghanistan! and Attack IRAQ!
World -- Wha?

Dec 2002 --- Bush & his animal act--- TERROR WMD MUSHROOM CLOUD! 45 minutes!
World -- Give Peace (and the UN) a chance.
Bush -- ATTACK IRAQ!

And my question... in the face of danger, what good is venal, stupid certainty?

25. A choice that leads the world??????
Yes thats right-a choice that leads the world with strength and confidence or an America that is uncertain in the face of danger.Good old humble foreign policy shrub-the truth is our beloved country is now disliked by allies we have had for generations-all we offer is war and arrogance-how can that be when so many of us want good for all? We dems are uncertain in a time of danger? really I think you chicken hawks showed your uncertainty by failing to serve your country in a time of danger when you fought the Cong in Alabama during your fly boy days. Then you have the gall to question our resolve? Wasn't John Kerry in the Mekong Delta while you were avoiding danger. Others went in your place so don't tell us you are a warrior. True warriors know war is the last resort not the first instinct. But where is your compassion Bush? Anger bitterness?-what have left the people of Afghanistan? We could have helped them a lotmore and made that country an example of our desire to see free peoples florish-what happened. In the worlds of Tim Rice "Instead of Government we have a stage"

You get the picture.

They're trying to spin it that if anyone is unhappy with Bush's policies and criticize him, it's because they have personal animosities, which is unreasonable and discounted as "bitterness."

Well, the news for them is that lots of Americans are pissed off and even bitter because the situation in their country is going down the tubes under Bush.

In this case, Kerry is right on target.

34. thoughts from the UK
Our "leader" led us into war under what most people think were false pretences and false intelligence. Our brothers, sisters, sons and daughters, died fighting for "the cause". Politicians (Robin Cook, Clair Short, a host of backbenchers) resigned because they thought it was wrong. A man committed suicide because of his involvement (Dr David Kelly). The BBC has been rocked by political whiplash following "sexing-up" allegations.

And, most importantly, Tony, dear, dear old Tony, ALMOST suffered a loss of his majority in the House of Commons.

Meanwhile, Monkey-boy seems to be getting on just fine. Not a day goes by when I don't hear something along the lines of "We did not sex documents up - the Brits did", if it's mentioned at all.
Saying political relationships have suffered between US and UK, not to mention Europe, is an understatement. I don't think that anyone, for the next 2-3 years, will willingly support US overhere in any form of military action in the war (I prefer "personal crusade") on terror (or "the people dad didn't quite get round to dealing with") unless proof more concrete than that in the WTCs (there are some fascinating links on this site - thank you for putting that all together) can be found.

Because Bush is hated almost universally everywhere in the world. If we are ever going to regain the respect we had under Clinton we need to get him out. He and his kind are a cancer and everything he touches turns to crap.

39. scare tactics
<"The actions we take, and the decisions we make in this decade, will have consequences far into this century. If America shows weakness and uncertainty, the world will drift toward tragedy," the president said.>

<It's a choice between an America that leads the world with strength and confidence -- or an America that is uncertain in the face of danger." >

this is going to be his platform. while everything pathetic and rotten he has done to the country will take the back page. Terra scares people into voting into office the person who has been there so far. Won't matter about anything else. Even the war does not have people up in arms over the lying Bush did and the subsequent changing around trying to blame someone else for his lies. He is a liar--people will not care--they do not care now--they will be terrified by his continued lies to them--and vote him in as a savior.

Well these two statements scare me. Because if his polls go down any further, I am certain, and scared, that he will pull some , or another, "situation" LIHOP or MIHOP or continued orange alerts the closer we get to the election.

Kerry or Edwards need all the strength they can muster from here on in to stomp on George and expose every single lie he tells from now on in and, at this point, expose the Potemkin first frump, the phoney assed wife he trots out now, as a great political analyst and stumper

41. I hope we make it past 11/2/04...
If his poll #'s are still below 50% in October, I wouldn't be shocked if October Surprise comes in the form of a terrorist attack on US soil. Under the DHS rulebook, that would constitute a rise in the alert level to red - which means the WH could declare martial law and suspend the election indefinitely...

I used to think that such a thing was crazy talk, but we've seen, time and time again, that this administration will stoop to any level to achieve their goals... :scared:

50. me too
after the Iraq lie and the continued lying to cover up the lies, I put nothing past him. He is certifiably insane and delusional and I am not just saying that because I'm angry. I believe he is insane.

This article linked by an astute DU,er(thank you--sorry I forgot your name) puts this all into perspective nicely. I thought at one time that it is simply hysteria to link Bush to the Reconstructonists--not anymore. Makes perfect sense--follows everything he has done so far, including arrogant Machiavellien tactics. It is possible and I think you are right--he can and he will declare martial law--no doubt about it. Any person that so blithly seeks to change the consitution on a ridiculous, and religious, issue such as gay marriage would not think twice about it==that is how insane he is.

58. ARGH! W staffers claimed Kerry withheld body armor for troops! LIES!
From this same article where, by the way, W never mentions 'bitterness and anger' from Democrats:

"Just before the president's remarks, Bush's campaign staff stepped up criticism of Kerry's voting record on defense by charging him with opposing body armor and other equipment for U.S. soldiers in Iraq."

KERRY INTRODUCED A SENATE BILL AUTHORIZING REIMBURSEMENT TO FAMILIES THAT HAVE HAD TO BUY BODY ARMOR FOR THEIR OWN RELATIVES OVERSEAS WHO HAVEN'T BEEN PROVIDED WITH IT!

This is an outrageous preemptive attack to cover for their own incompetence in equipping our troops.

60. Sowing the Seeds of Love
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 12:18 PM by JusticeForAll
This political song from the late 80's early 90's that Tears for Fears wrote has been my personal anthem lately. Yes, we are angry and bitter, but it's because we love our country, we love our fellow man, we love our international neighbors, we love peace, and we love the planet. The song is pretty vague and general but it also seems kinda prophetic when you put in the Bush context...'who has no idea how the majority feels...'

(Orzabal/Smith)
© 1989 Virgin Music Ltd.
High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man
And the love train rides from coast to coast
D.J.'s the man we love the most
Could you be, could you be squeaky clean
And smash any hope of democracy?
As the headline says you're free to choose
There's egg on your face and mud on your shoes
One of these days they're gonna call it the blues.

And anything is possible when you're Sowing the Seeds of Love
Anything is possible - Sowing the Seeds of Love

I spy tears in their eyes
They look to the skies for some kind of divine intervention
Food goes to waste?
So nice to eat, so nice to taste
Politician Grannie with your high ideals
Have you no idea how the Majority feels?
So without love and a promised land
We're fools to the rules of a Government plan
Kick out the Style: Bring back the Jam!

Anything...
Sowing the Seeds
The Birds and the Bees
My Girlfriend and Me in Love

Feel the Pain
Talk about it
If you're a worried man - then shout about it
Open hearts - Feel about it
Open minds - think about it
Everyone - read about it
Everyone - scream about it
Everyone
Everyone - read about it, read about it
Read it in the books in the crannies and the nooks there are books to read!

Anything...

61. he bombs two countries and we offer bitterness and anger?
oh what the fuck
and besides who's the waffler

The 2003 tax cut will create 800,000 jobs, 50,000 jobs were lost in 2003.

4.6 million jobs will be created in 2004, no 3.2 million, no 2.6 million, no maybe 1.6million at this rate 2004 will be another year of lost jobs

Iraq has WMD's and they are in the area of Tikrit, no they are out in the desert somewhere we need a few months to find them, no they just had the capability to produce WMD's, nope we never said that there was an imminent threat!!!!

66. Accusing Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry of waffling
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 02:41 PM by nolabels
Using ones own common sense. Lets say they have this game called basketball. When one basketball player passes the ball to another player, then the other player takes the ball and then misses the shot to the basket. Do they call that a failed pass or missed shot?

On edit: had to substitute the infinite wisdom for common sense, hate to patronize or pester the infinite wisdom or common sense but hopefully one fits besides I would hate to go down to the level of fisher-price toys

No Mr. President ... We offer the truth to the American people. Truth which is in short supply in your administration. Truth like Harry Truman who told the truth to the Republicans and the Republicans said it was hell.

75. Apparently Bush doesn't listen to radio either...................
If democrats only offer hate and anger, then he better whip his clear channel buddies in line.

I listen to all of it (being a college student, I always try to expand my horizons and listen to all sides on my way to school, which is a long drive) and all I ever hear is either about how us Liberals:

(rush) are tearing america apart and what a bad person Hillary is(femi-nazi)((probably becuase rush has always found it hard to get a piece, he referres to a lot of women as this)) and is a little crazy in my opinion becuase he is complementing himself about 1 or 2 times every 3 minutes or so throught the whole show. He dogs Head start one day and about every education plan there is to make kids smarter and how we shouldnt be funding them because they DONT WORK and there is no proof they have for 30 years according to him. Then less than a few days later, complains taht the reason jobs leave the US because of our poor education system!?!?!?!?!?!??!
all I had to think when I heard that was "WTF rush!"

(Hannity)
this guy reminds me of a militant that wants to abolish or kill people if they dont agree with him while looking like he is crying all the time, just look at him and you will see what I am talking about. this guy is rank and file conservative and is always mistating facts. He changes facts to support his rhetoric all the time. he also spews the same as rush.

(bill oliely)
just a moron that lies and refuses to apologize when called on it or admit he was wrong. spews the same as the previous.

(Glen Beck)
now sometimes, I do mean sometimes he is reasonable, but other times he's like a whole different beast.

(michael savage)
this guy needs anger management and some vicidan. Maybe some blood pressure pills becuase he is definately not a people person from what his books indicate.

(The rest of the bunch, are just crazy. They need to be committed, and I hope Anne Coulter Bit*h is first in line to go to the padded room with a speaker in the cieling so she can listen to liberals all day long and a bullet proof glass window so everyone could observe her animal ways......lol)

Every Liberal should listen to them and what they say all day long(if you can without loosing your lunch,temper,...mind), cuz once you hear one you know what the rest of them are parroting back to each other and thier listeners. That's why the Right is so organized and lock-step with one another.......They are being brain washed!
