Bush too busy to meet with NAACP
President is not targeting liberal blacks, say political analysts

Since the days of Warren G. Harding, presidents have met at the White House with leaders of the NAACP. Not President Bush

MORE THAN HALFWAY through his presidency, Bush has yet to receive the nation’s oldest civil rights group or the Leadership Conference of Civil Rights, an umbrella organization.
The president met with the Congressional Black Caucus for just an hour or so during his first month in office, but has not responded to a half-dozen subsequent requests to meet again.
While Bush, who got only 9 percent of the black vote in 2000, has shunned sit-downs with established black groups, he has reached out to carefully chosen minority audiences and to civil rights advocates less critical of his policies. One example is the National Urban League, whose annual conference in Pittsburgh Bush is addressing on Monday.

1. Of course he isn't going to meet with them
They aren't going to vote for him. So why should Bush waste his time?

And if anything it helps Bush with his base. By not meeting with the NAACP he is sending a subtle message to his hard core base.

3. I sort of agree-
it would be like Bush meeting with the Sierra Club. The whole thing would be hypocritical and inconsistent with this administration's disdain for tradition and contempt for widely held societal norms.

2. It also sends a BIG message to society:
Go ahead......blow off all them blacks! They aren't worth anyone's time.

A leader leads by example....and he is definitely telling society -- to hell with the blacks. And ADDING to the racial divides in this country. It's a very subtle thing....but it registers in peoples' psyches.

Despicable!!!!!!!

4. Blow off anyone who's vote can't keep you elected. Why doesn't the
media report more on this? It's not a black issue. It's a special interest to keep yourself in office. It's not taking care of America it's taking care of yourself. This is UnAmerican and should be heavily aired by the media. Oops, the media in control by the GOP.

5. So much brush to clear, cows to talk to, wars to order
Just dinna get around to it. Noting personal, I'm sure (although James Baker comes to mind: "Fuck the Jews, they never vote for us")

6. Speaking of the NAACP, no doubt everyone remembers the flap

over Gephardt, Kucinich, and Lieberman missing an NAACP event a couple of weeks ago. Even though Kucinich was in D.C. for a vote in the House, NAACP Pres. Mfume excoriated him as much as the other two (who, if I recall correctly, had "previous engagements" -- Gephardt was not in the House to vote with Kucinich) But how many heard the update on Kucinich and the NAACP?

KUCINICH ADDRESSES NAACP July 17, 2003

"This morning, Dennis Kucinich appeared and was warmly received at the NAACP convention in Miami. In his remarks, he discussed peace and justice issues, and explained his effort to establish a cabinet-level Department of Peace."

"Kucinich could not attend an NAACP candidates' forum on Monday due to an important Medicare vote. The next day, Congressman John Conyers Jr., the dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, issued a statement explaining why Kucinich had not been able to attend Monday's forum; Conyers called Kucinich "one of the most exciting candidates seeking the Democratic presidential nomination," and referred to his "exemplary record when dealing with issues facing the African American community."

Much of the news about Dennis Kucinich doesn't get reported by the "liberal" press. It's no doubt useful to make regular checks of the websites of any candidate who interests you, just to see what's not being reported.

11. I was just going to say that
While it's understandable that Bush tells the NAACP to, essentially, piss off, let us not forget that some very top Dems also blew off the NAACP- and they have no exscuse for that. The NAACP has been a great ally to the Democrats and they showed absolutly no respect for them by not showing up.

7. But he has time to meet with Prince Bandar on short notice
That should tell people something about his priorities.

9. Nope, you're wrong. He is afraid of them
Start asking yourself everytime Bush avoids a meeting, event or press conference, or whatever, whether this is because he is afraid of a confrontation. You will see a pattern emerge. This guy is seriously afraid of any reality that might present an intellectual or emotional challenge to his own world view. And I mean pants poopin' afraid.

10. ...........pants poopin' afraid.
Jack, I think you're on to something! They may ask him an 'unscripted' question. He might actually have to answer it without the guidance of Karl, the master puppeteer! And apparently that scares him more than Satan in the flesh!

12. The Shrub is a coward of the first water, like all neo-cons
Like all bullies, he attacks only those that he knows he can easily defeat, and he stays the hell away from anyone or anything that he even suspects might stand up to him. It's the Modern Republican way.

Courage, friends. That's all that's needed to defeat these wussies.

13. What I want to know is:
WHEN AND WHERE CAN WE SEE THE WHOLE DEMOCRATIC PROGRAM OF SPEAKERS?

If you drop a rock and no one can hear it, ia it really there? Is it EVER going to be broadcast?
