(Scott) Roeder (man accused of killing George Tiller) decries ‘being treated as a criminal’
Source: AP

WICHITA | The man accused of killing late-term abortion provider George Tiller says he’s “being treated as a criminal” even though he hasn’t been convicted of anything.

Scott Roeder called The Associated Press on Thursday from the Sedgwick County Jail and disputed what he called “broad brush” characterizations of him as being anti-government.

“I want people to stop and think: It is not anti-government. It is anti-corrupt-government,” Roeder said.

..

“I haven’t been convicted of anything, and I am being treated as a criminal,” he said in the three-minute telephone conversation.

Roeder said he was concerned about the media attention that his family, particularly his elderly mother, had been getting.

“I appreciate your prayers,” he said.

1. When you shoot someone, at church,
in broad daylight, in front of witnesses, after announcing your plans to commit that very murder, society has an interest in protecting itself from you, even before conviction.

If he is acquitted, he will be released. He made his decision, it had consequences.

NOT.

Maybe you should have considered all that BEFORE you chose to do the deed.

The fact that you chose to do this in a church is one more strike against you and your "allies" as far as this Orthodox Christian is concerned.

Boo fucking hoo. You pig.

5. If he's so damn proud of what he's done, why doesn't he just admit it?
That always slays me about these guys...they so committed to this "cause", but when they're caught, they plead not guilty. If the cause and action are justifiable, plead guilty with pride.

17. Exactly
Why did he run away? If he thought it was so just he should have just stood there and told everyone how just it is. Fucking coward.

9. I'm sure this fucker has touted the virtues of waterboarding innocent muslims.
Personally, I think he should be tortured into giving up the names of anyone who might have coerced him into doing this. I'm sure once he's been tortured enough, he'll give up some names, whether they actually influenced him or not.

10. I agree with him. He's not a criminal, he's a terrorist.
Currently, terrorists don't need to be convicted and have no rights.

See Guantánamo Bay.

13. What would Jesus do, Mr. Roeder?
Dear Mr. Roeder,

I assume that, like me, you are a Christian.

The fundamental teaching in the Jewish bible is the two great commandments -- to love God and love your neighbor. In the Christian bible, Jesus restates those as core teachings. The essential message of Jesus is the practice of radical love. What don’t I understand here?

You are alleged to have committed cold blooded killing of a human being.

What would Jesus do? It is a pious question asked by fundamentalist Christians. But it seems few of you like his unmistakable answer.

Doc Martin

32. Unlike the terrorists expecting the virgins,
these nutjobs are too cowardly to commit suicide in the act. If this loon didn't want to be treated like the barking mad criminal he is, he should have offed himself at the scene.

I thought bread, water-boarding, and solitary was the traditional American treatment of terrorists.

21. You Chose to Shoot an Unarmed Man in Broad Daylight, Scotty
Wassa matta, Scotty? Don't you have the strength of your convictions? :sarcasm: You chose to shoot an unarmed man in broad daylight inside a church, Scotty. Most people think that's criminal. Now you're facing some consequences.

I hope before you face a judge and a jury of your peers and that they convict you of premeditated first-degree murder. I hope they send you to the Big House where you'll spend the rest of your life with other criminals.

 :nopity:

He'll get his day in court.

This guy may call himself anti-government but I'm sure he's more than happy to let the government interfer in the reporductive choices women make. Of course since the government isn't, he's more than happy to.

30. So, Mr. Roeder, the way we are to deal with "corrupt" government in the US
is to assassinate healthcare providers?

Ok. I get it. I assume the way we should deal with economic problems is to assassinate church leaders, too? It makes just as much sense.

33. Just consider it "martyrdom enhancement"
The Big Skydaddy will love you more for your earthly torment. Being inherently charitable, I say we help him out, and do it in a symbiotic way: perhaps we can hook into support groups of those who were physically beaten by their elders for various religious infractions, and let them wail on him for a bit of catharsis. It would bring him even more Lordly love for his selfish immolation. I don't think we should go overboard and REALLY hurt him too much (that would bring him too much righteous joy) they should simply beat him to within a cubit of his life.
