Iran protester slain after huge pro-reform rally
Source: AP

TEHRAN, Iran – Gunfire from a pro-government militia killed one man and wounded several others Monday after hundreds of thousands of chanting opponents of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad marched in central Tehran to support their pro-reform leader in his first public appearance since disputed elections. The outpouring in Azadi, or Freedom, Square for reformist leader Mir Hossein Mousavi followed a decision by Iran's most powerful figure for an investigation into the vote-rigging allegations.

Security forces watched quietly, with shields and batons at their sides.

Later, a group of demonstrators with fuel canisters set a small fire at a compound of a volunteer militia linked to Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard as the crowd dispersed from the square. As some tried to storm the building, people on the roof could be seen firing directly at the demonstrators at the northern edge of the square, away from the heart of the rally.

An Associated Press photographer saw one person fatally shot and at least two others who appeared to be seriously wounded.

4. I see lots of bloodshed before it's over
The military is still very much behind Ahmadenijad; I wouldn't be surprised to see some brutal crackdowns over the next few days.

Iran's religious leaders are the wild card here. Will they step in and remove Ahmadenijad in order to restore order? Or do they stand behind the hard-liners?

9. This easily could have been
America if Obama had mysteriously lost the election. The Iranian people want change an the NUT that says he won is a fraud as grand as Bush. We need to stand with, support, encourage and defend the good people of Iran against this tyranny. Could Obama petition the UN to investigate the election?

Violence at Iran's election protest

Updated on 15 June 2009

By Channel 4 News

At least one person is killed and many are wounded as shots are fired during a huge election protest in Tehran.

Shots have been fired during a huge rally in support of the defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi.

Witnesses say people ran from the scene in panic, as several armed men opened fire. And there are also reports of gunfire in three areas of northern Tehran.

Tens of thousands of people had gathered in central Tehran to back Mousavi's call for new elections after the hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was swept back to power.

tale of two pics.

the first looks like a cross section of the general population imo

The other side of the coin, the cross section isn't seen at all. In fact, not a single woman or older man in the pic of A-jobs supporters.

In fact, I'll bet they could be all officers and enlisted men in stealth mode ( all "bussed" in for the event of course)

Not fair to make such an unfair judgment?

well, tough
