Attacks now target public utilities, mainly power plants, aggravating conditions for an already rickety national grid.
The latest victim has been the main power plant in the Sadr City, Iraq’s most densely populated township in the outskirts of the capital Baghdad.
“This is the most important plant feeding the city. The attack has reduced power supplies to two hours a day,” an Electricity Ministry official said.

But government officials, speaking on the strict condition of anonymity, say the attacks cannot be “distanced from the current political status quo.”
