Johanns (R-Ne) keeps aim on ACORN

WASHINGTON - Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., on Tuesday won approval of an amendment to block a controversial community organizing group from receiving federal defense funds.

The Senate approved by voice vote the amendment to a pending defense spending bill.

The amendment bars money in the legislation from flowing to ACORN, the group accused of falsifying voter registrations last year and targeted now by a video sting.

Johanns had offered similar amendments on two previous spending bills. Those amendments were approved by large, bipartisan margins.
