Tsunami advisory issued for West Coast
Posted: 09/29/2009 04:10:26 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES - Federal experts have now issued a tsunami advisory for possible dangerous currents in coastal areas of California and Oregon following a magnitude-8 earthquake in the Pacific Ocean near Samoa.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says an advisory means that a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to persons in or very near the water is imminent or expected.

The center says widespread inundation is not expected.

The hazardous period will occur early Wednesday morning.

Warning center official Guy Urban says a tsunami of 12 inches to 26 inches has been measured since the earthquake. Urban says it would be dangerous to people swimming or on beaches near the water.

3. 1-2 ft tsunami is not anything to sneer at in some places. With our deep coastal
waters it is not so likely to be a problem.

There is a photographer, Lincoln Karim, who has devoted years to taking pics of Palemale and Lola, their offspring and the other creatures of Central Park.

There is a book and calendars available with some of the pics.

He posts pictures every day, each more breathtaking than the ones before...

16. Wow...She is beautiful..
The Palemale saga is incredible.

palemale.com has some of the most exquisite pictures you could ever imagine.
The photographer has been posting for about 7 years now...and the archives include
just about every creature that exists in or near Central Park.
I was browsing thru some from June and he has these incredible closeups of bees and flowers that
will take your breath away.
Once I start going thru the pics, I am there for at least an hour....

17. I checked out about 30 days of pics already!
My favorite are the ones where the hawk is flying away with its prey.

14. Talking of Wednesdays has it reached Hawaii yet ?
Here's Wednesday the 28th January 1998. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDYxRpucOQ4 The championships had been scrubbed because of the adverse forecast but the IMAX crew was still there - hence the good film footage.
