Stern Sources Say FCC Fines Delayed (says Powell Freaking Stern Martyr)
http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=20496

Howard Stern was still on the air this morning after the FCC failed to hit Infinity with the the Notice of Apparent Liability that Stern's inside source at the Commission was “99% sure” was coming down at the end of last week. “Friday after the show I was sitting around waiting for the axe to fall,” admitted Stern as he signed on this morning. “The FCC hasn’t come out with their fines yet. They’re preparing their case still.”

Stern said his source told him, “ Powell is freaking out because he realizes he’s turning me into a martyr and he’s afraid it will affect the Bush campaign. He actually does know how much power we wield with this radio show. So now he’s trying to figure out when to put the fines against me. I know this because I have inside sources at the FCC. I have about three people in there, so I know exactly what is going on. So now they’re in a weird position. If the fines come out, everyone’s going to know how truthful this show is and what we’ve been saying. If they don’t, it just makes me look like I’ve been crying wolf.”

Stern says the fines will be timed so as not to interfere with President Bush’s reelection bid. “Chairman Powell has been really freaked out by how I keep reporting everything that has been going on, including The Fellowship, George Bush, everything,” Stern said. “He’s just a little afraid he’s turning me into a martyr and that this could cost Bush the election. So he’s thinking it through to maybe hold off my fine until right before the election so I’ll look like a crazy man. He’s still preparing his case. He’s got a whole bunch of little things I’ve said on the air that he doesn’t like.”

<snip>

Stern also spent time Monday morning picking apart President Bush’s use of 9/11 imagery in television ads, offering his own narration for a fictitious ad that would point out the President was posing for pictures with teachers while people were falling to their deaths at the WTC, almost as if he didn’t care about the horror that was happening in New York City. Stern said he would end the advert with a tagline of “George Bush’s dereliction of duty is remarkable. Vote Kerry.”

Say nothing. Stern rants.
Ask him to stop ranting. Stern rants louder.
Fine him. He says "told ya."
Fire him. He gets ratings for someone else and crusades even harder against you.

Powell can't win. Stern is torching Bush and Powell can't stop it. Funny, last time I looked, that wasn't his job. How incestuous and pathetic that the FCC is being run by decisions made to enhance shrub's re-election chances.

And how satisfying that a freedom of speech derelict has Mikie Powell by the balls.

Keep squeezin Howard.

26. We have a First Amendment and a very hated President
This isn't the USSR.

What the hell is Powell gonna do? You can't take a guy off the air because you disagree with his political views - now can you?

Shoulda remembered this stuff, Busheviks, before you proceeded to lie and kick us in the teeth the last few years.

You are VERY hated now. Deal with it.

44. You can take someone off the air for political reasons if
you can create a credible story that it was for some other reason. This would be too transparent even for the gang in the WH. Howard would be wise to keep his callers on a 30 second delay because they are going to be pounded with obscenities called in.

5. Sweet,,,

One of the bases of conservatism is the moron vote. Stern owns the moron vote.

He is in a powerful position and he knows it.

Smart guy. With these statements the ball is now back in Powell's court. He can either fine Stern and make him a martyr, or he can not do anything and let Stern keep trashing Bush. Either way, he is screwed and he's going to be sorry he brought it up. Dumb move to even try it in the first place.

Notice how CNN hasn't said a thing about the Sern/Bush controversy? They ommitted his remarks about Bush and made it seem like he was talking about regulators and not about the president*

Anyone want to tell me that CNN doesn't have a Bush bias?

Choose "The Howard Stern Show" from the dropdown menu, and send him words of encouragement and links to stories you think he ought to see. They don't like him talking about sex and bodily functions? He can jolly well talk about politics, then!!!

39. Talking about the RW Church Wing-nuts and * getting the Bin Ladens out
the US after the 911 tragedy. Telling people that that was Shrub's priority because of his vast history with the bin Laden family and other oil families. Saying Chimp "didn't care about the guy on the 90th floor." He's talking about how the Jesus freaks have nothing better to do than email campaigns to Ford Motor Co.to get sitcoms off the air because they think they are promoting homosexuality. Airing out alot of dirty little secrets.

These are the first utterances his audience has probably ever heard of these issues.

Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 06:39 PM by Beetwasher
I know some will complain and say "what took him so long" and to some degree they're right because he only started this brutal attack when it touched him personally, sort of like Sullivan. But you know what? Unlike Sully, Stern's for real on this and he's ALWAYS been fighting this fight for the 1st ammendment. He's now totally exposing the whole underbelly of the beast to millions and millions, it's everything we at DU have dreamed of having exposed to his audience. I've listened to him on and off for 20+ years and I've NEVER seen him on a mission like this. When he get's going he's fucking OBSESSIVE and EFFECTIVE and no matter what anyone one says, he's smart as hell and Clear Channel may be against him but Viacom's in his corner and they're nothin' to sneeze at...

16. Stern is smart...
... and as I've tried to say here - he is playing a game and is two steps ahead of these morons.

Today, after ranting against Bush* for a while he said he was going to lay off. Now, I'm guessing he might really back off - not rant about Bush* for a half hour, but instead throw the occasional punch.

That is IF this FCC action goes away. If he does not think it is going away, I guarantee you he will do an anti-Bush* rant every day.

He really has manouvered them into a difficult position. Whether you like him or not, you are wrong if you think he is stupid. He's swimming with the sharks here and I think he's doing a pretty good job of it.

I wonder if his ratings are going up and the cost of ad air time is as well. Does anyone know how to check that out. This could be the beginning of whole new marketing tactics, after all isn't that what all Corporations really care about, PROFIT$. This could be in our favor.

Colin Powell's son from now on because that's how he got the job: through family.

Stern also talked about how Bush did nothing but read to kids while planes slammed into the WTC and then he went and hid in a hole. He said that Bush "can't think on his feet". Truer words have never been said.

Every time they bring it up, they talk about "indecency" and show a picture of Janet Jackson at the Superbowl. They never mention precisely what was indecent on Stern's show that day. Despite Stern's loud and constant complaints about anti-Bush censorship, I haven't seen a single mention of it on television or in the papers.

Have I just missed it?

38. Poetic Justice

I am shocked but thrilled that Howard's listeners will get a taste of what these thugs are like.

He has millions of listeners and now he is giving the neocons a taste of their own medicine.

Michael Powell is a sorry example of a wimpbag. He is being pulled by his daddy's coattails like Curious Georgie.

Remember when Larry Flynt saved Clinton..that was masterful.
Howard Stern is such a loose canon that they better be very careful how they mess with him.

He probably has all the gossip about the kinky habits of all the neocons. Bring It On Howard!

Looks like the GOP could have figured out a smarter way to 'pump their base' than this.

45. Saw a great "talking head" thing the other day
On CNN or MSNBC (?)there was a square off between a guy who, I believe, writes a trade magazine for radio talk shows and one of these "family value" asses. The writer told the holy witch that they are going to rue the day they did this to Stern. He talked about Howard's listeners, their fury, and how this was going to take down Bush. I've never listened to Howard but I would assume that a big part of his audience is Bush's precious "white males" and apparently that is why he's been kind of Bush asskissing for years (playing right to the crowd). Now he's getting the crowd into a "hateful mood"--and you know what, it's just this kind of thing it takes to do the trick. These morons won't listen to political reasoning and how the repukes affect their lives. And to think that on the other end, Rush is bitching blood through his nose because he's being treated so "unfairly" by liberal prosecutors in Florida------flushing the spewing slob would be an extra added bonus!!!
