Bush to Stay at Texas Ranch a Month
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - It's billed as a working vacation, but fund-raisers — at the rate of one every five days — will fill President Bush's schedule during his monthlong stay in August at his Texas ranch.

Continuing his drive to raise at least $170 million, seeking a Republican nomination for which he faces no opponent, Bush is mixing public policy events, mostly on the West Coast, with six fund- raisers in Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington and Minnesota. The practice allows the administration, in certain cases, to bill taxpayers for half the travel costs of the political activity. ---

We are going to change history -- we're going to have a ton of fun doing it.

Dying at the rate of one, two or three a day.

The economy's in the shitter.

No idea where Saddam or Osama are.

States going bankrupt all over the map.

But Chimpy's got to have his month off, no matter what.

Are we still paying full time for his being the president? Or do we get a 1/12 rebate every year?

14. I'm miffed by that, too.
They doubled the presidential salary just in time for His Chimpfulness to beneit (as though he needed it). Not for him the classy refusal to take a salary along with his wealth. No, he wants to guarantee that unearned income is taxed at a lower rate than wages or salaries, and he wants to ensure that heirs pay nothing on the estates coming to them.

:puke:

Meanwhile, our health insurance premiums are going up, wages are being frozen or cut, people are getting laid off, and off Bush goes to scratch his posterior and wave at supporters for a month. It's all right for some.

We went from the lowest paid prez (Clinton's $200K was the lowest "real" dollar presidential salary ever) to the highest in *.

I guess it really balances itself: We certainly got our money's worth '93-'01, but getting ripped off now. Do we call it "even"?

And if they refer to his pig farm as the Western White House one more time, I am going to scream. There is no damn Western White House!!! Does that mean the country gets to keep it after he gets booted out?

But thanks, Richardo!

I seem to recall another DUer came up with the expression, around the time of Bush's first month-long vacation. I was quite taken with it and started using it in posts (particularly since an antique-dealer friend of mine had been showing me some newly-acquired cowboy gear, including a branding iron with a "lazy" (lying on its side) figure 4).

Hey, if the Shrub falls off his Segway again, we might be able to call it the "Crazy W" (how they refer to an upside-down letter in cattle brands).

But the regional chair already said his purpose for coming is for a fundraising event......"and beyond that, we don't know."

Arrghhhhh........ his little visit will cost our BANKRUPT city about $200,000...maybe more. Portland, btw, has 43 vacant police officer positions open because we don't have the money to pay salaries. GROWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLl

89. I already wrote to a City Council member to ask
how much money Seattle is expecting to cough up for the local security brigade for Bush's visit on 8/22. Yesterday in GD, someone posted info about Portland, saying they had to spend $200K or so when he came to down in 2000 for a fundraiser, this at a time schools were closing down early and teachers going unpaid.

I got an email back within hours saying that he is looking into it with the financial dept and will let me know!

every city should raise this issue - no public dollars for GOP fund-raising!!

9. more fund-raisers = more protests
everywhere he goes, he'll be raking in the bucks while the local communities foot the bill for his security - hundreds of hours of cop overtime... while schools, libraries, and social services go begging.

everywhere he goes, there will be protests. he may shut his eyes and ears so as not to see or hear us, but we'll still be there.

But, the protests will be HUGE!!! :-)

Gee, I wonder what the troops will think when they see their "leader" on TV...laying around the (air-conditioned) ranch goofing off...and prancing up and down the west coast...raising all of that cash for his campaign? He'll be doing this for the entire month of August...and, partly on *OUR* dime! Hmmmmmm, I wonder how most Americans will feel about this "working vacation"?

Just go in for these next few weeks -act like you are looking for a church home- sure it won't be easy but you can steel yourself to it--act real interested in joining-ask questions about what they do as far as political support. These are the places they bus in from, hell, get on one of their buses and get a free ride in to protest.

I know that Americans are still dying almost daily in Iraq, I know that Bush lied about nuclear threats in the state of the union, I know he started the war with Iraq and then went on vacation every weekend during the war, and I know he took a monthlong vacation in 2001 despite recieving numerous warnings about an imminent terrorist attack.
But the man deserves a taxpayer-funded vacation with the added perks of fundraising.
If he doesn't continue taking monthlong vacations, the terrorists win. (And by terrorists, I mean us).

All sarcasm aside, why does this do-nothing moron need a vacation anyway?

The Crawford Peace House

With our unique location in a tiny village near the Western White House, we plan to offer a special welcome to representatives of foreign media who visit Crawford when the president is nearby.

<http://us.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/03/10/bush.activist.reut/>

Crawford Mayor Robert Campbell told the Dallas Morning News the town will keep a close eye on the peace house. Campbell was not immediately available for comment.
"We're not going to let them turn the town into a three-ring circus," Campbell told the paper. "If they want to protest, let them go to Washington."

I thought it was really strange that we get this warning about "credible evidence" that al Quaeda is planning another attack, and yet they didn't increase the terror level to orange. While I believe that the terror levels are pretty much worthless, isn't this exactly what the orange level is supposed to represent? But, of course, it would look really bad if Bush went on vacation during an orange alert.

36. the $175 million that won't pay out
I hope the Whore does pick up $175 million because there's nothing I'd like to see better than $175 million from his fat cat contributors go straight down the tube when he loses in '04. W's a bad investment.

39. All this and the thread I
just read about pulling the air marshals of cross country flights (maybe afraid they might botch their next "terra attack"). This is unbelievable, are the People really stupid enough to buy this twice?

How can it not be obvious to even the dimmist half-wit that this moron is seriously out of control!! Have those facts been disclosed to the public via any major media outlet? WTF

I am so sickened by this administration I can barely keep food down. It is no longer Orwellian, it is now officially Kafka-esqe. I can barely wrap my mind around it. :grr:

What a bang-up job Chimpy has done. Those 4 hour workdays must be a lot to deal with in between all those naps and exercise.

Glad we're spending $4 billion a month in Iraq when they couldn't come up with $900 million to keep air marshals in the air.

Impeach the Chimp!!

Bush has time to go chase tumbleweeds on his ranch while there's this great threat to our nation! Or maybe terrorism really isn't that threatening after all. What a colossal prick.

69. The man hasn't worked
a day in his life, so why would he start now? I wish he wouldn't visit the west coast and infect the area with his presence. We can't afford the disinfectant needed to clean up after him.

As far as I'm concerned, the man has been on vacation since taking office. Puppets don't have a lot to do. They wait until it's show time when their strings are pulled and "say" what the puppet master wants them to say.

73. the monthlong vaca/media training in 2001 scared me
I remember when aWol took his first month offf in August '01 it seemed mighty damned fishy to me.
Remember back in those more innocent times? When his approval was going south, the econ was tanking, he was pissing off every country, ignoring treaties, there was the fundraiser's submarine killing of the japanese sailors, there was the photo opp looking over at N korea (through covered binocs) saying "that's evil" like some 3rd grader.
There was the couldn't string 2 words together, lean on the podium thing.

I figured at the time that they dragged him over to Compund W
(love that!) for some intensive media training. practice looking less stupid on TV , how to work the mic-in-the-ear-so-you-can-repeat-what-kkkarl-is-prompting-you-with-doohicky.

Little did we know he was really training to look "presidential" in anticipation of the upcoming National tragedy!

Yeah, I'm feeling pretty good right now.

I'm more comfortable when he's not sitting in Al Gore's chair.

I'd rather have the "little fella" playing cowboy than President.

Besides, he's got ranchin' to catch up on - must have a whole passel of wild Segways that need breakin' - RIDEM' W RIDE.

88. he gets much more vacation than a physician resident does
My brother is a surgery resident and he only gets one day off a week and two weeks vacation a year. And he works 13-16 hour days. It's just outrageous that our president, in a time of war, gets such a cushy schedule. I guess they're banking on the fact that everyone knows he doesn't do or control anything anyway.

90. Meanwhile...back at the Ranch.
And now we have a liar as our President who passes the buck. We are the laughing-stock of the world. We are much-hated throughout the world. We live in fear. Our economy is tanking because of Bush's tax-cuts for the rich. We are stuck in a quaqmire in Iraq not to mention our troops are methodically being killed every day as President Bush encourages the enemy with moronic statements like "Bring em on"!

Unemployment is the highest in 10 years. Wall Street is anemic and reports say Bush missed 9/11 signs.

Meanwhile back at the Texas Ranch, all is well while Bush relaxes and takes another month off at tax-payers expense while America is going to hell in a bread-basket.

As Rush Limbaugh said "Another American killed in Iraq...so what?"
