Facebook to share more user data with advertisers
Edited on Sat Oct-31-09 06:14 PM by denem
Source: The Register

Facebook has rewritten its privacy policy to cut out legal jargon and has indicated it plans to broaden the types of user data it sells to advertisers.

The changes, announced by PR boss Elliot Schrage, suggest Facebook will give its paying customers more details about how their adverts perform. User data will be "anonymised", the new policy says.

"This information allows advertisers to do what is commonly called 'conversion tracking', which helps them measure the effectiveness of their ads and make them more relevant," Schrage wrote.

"Most advertisers already do this in other places on the web. Should Facebook provide this, we'll continue to respect your privacy by not sharing your information with advertisers, and we'll anonymize any information we receive."

User data is anonymized? Not if your profile is set to viewable according TFA.

1. Sorry, as a FB user, I won't even click on their ads, and AdBlocker Plus
does a pretty damn good job of blocking out unwanted ads.

Go to Mozilla.org and it shouldn't be too hard to find the add-ons. Just follow the instructions.

on edit: correct name is Adblock Plus

6. I just downloaded it
Very nice! Too bad it won't get rid of the flash ads. Probably they will soon dominate to combat this blocking ability.

11. That's what flashblock is for.
It's a Firefox add on that replaces all the flash objects with clickable buttons. :)

9. Did everybody really think all of these "free" sites were really free?
You don't get something for nothing out of any business, and that includes those on the Internet.
