Bombs Rock Baghdad, Mosul
Source: WSJ

BAGHDAD--Three cars exploded in the same area of Baghdad Tuesday, killing four and injuring 15, in what one police official here said was a coordinated attack.

The bombs exploded near the same time, around 7.:30 a.m., close to a series of high-profile installations, including in the vicinity of a security checkpoint for the heavily secured Green Zone, the seat of the Iraqi government; the Iranian embassy; and the Iraqi foreign ministry.

The three bombs had been placed in parked and unoccupied cars. A fourth, red pick-up truck with a bomb was also parked near the Green Zone checkpoint, but the bomb was defused, according to police on the scene.

The blasts came a week to the day after five cars bombs detonated across Baghdad, killing more than 120 people. Tuesday's blasts appeared to be much less powerful than last week's, and the timing -- early in the morning -- may have helped prevent a higher death toll, according to a police official.
