Tea Party groups plan (January 20) 'strike'
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) - Some Tea Party activists from across the country are planning a 'national strike' on January 20, the one-year anniversary of President Barack Obama's inauguration.

The idea of holding an economic protest sprung up during the holidays as the result of a conference call held by various Tea Party group leaders, according to Allen Hardage, a conservative grassroots organizer from Georgia.

"Tea Party activists are frustrated that despite a huge turnout over the last year Congress is ignoring them," says Hardage, who is national operations director for the planned strike. "The question is that if the elected officials ignore you, what do you do to exercises your right to self-governance? So we decided to hold a National Day of Strike where we go after the large donors of the people pushing this radical agenda."

Hardage says the idea of the one-day strike is to focus attention on the businesses that support the most liberal members of Congress as well as groups that advocate "big government" policies.

But Hardage says the move will not be a boycott: "Here we are exposing the agenda of some of the most widely known companies in America and letting the consumer decide. If a corporation decides to jump into politics to the tune of millions of dollars, then they need to expect that they will alienate some of their customers."

the peace activists have far larger turnouts, and ignored completely. so now the tp'ers have some vague idea how we have felt all these decades.

3. LOL. Best part doesn't come until the end of the article:
"CNN reached out to a number of national Tea Party organizations. While some were aware of the planned strike and some not informed, none said they were going to actively take part in the event."

 So their own "fact-checking" found no one really taking part, yet they ran the story anyhow. :D

4. Damn. I was hoping they'd call in sick
Get fired and open up jobs for people who want and need work. But wait, there's a hole in that theory, teabaggers may not have jobs.
I had a teabagger ask me last year if I actually had a job. I told him yes and it's likely that I make more money and enjoy better benefits than him. I work at a Unionized shop and we get holidays, etc. where he probably doesn't if he even has a job.

8. So exactly how is this supposed to have an effect?
"It's not a boycott". A bunch of people will take the day off and not buy anything. The next day they will go back to work and buy the stuff they didn't buy the day before. mmmm...kay.

A strike doesn't really have any effect until there is garbage piling up in the streets and the store shelves are empty. Methinks they have a little issue with the concept.

10. Right, let's listen to a screaming minority of crazies.
Besides, if what they "wanted" made any sense at all, they'd be more credible. I've asked wingers to define this "radical agenda" many times. They can't do it. They only know the talking points. "Yeah, but he's gunna..." is their only argument. I ask "What has Obama done that is so radical? He's kept a lot of bush people and most of bush's policies."

19. Are they going to boycott Viagra spammers?
Edited on Mon Jan-04-10 05:31 PM by drm604
That CNN blog has a link to the organizers' website at http://strike120.ning.com/
Go there and scroll down the page to just below the eagle in the center column. Right below that there is a section marked "Forum". The first post in that section is by someone saying that a "strike" will accomplish nothing useful. The second post is labeled "Zithromax causing tinnitus". If you click on that you will end up on a full page spam for Viagra and other prescription drugs. The page is not even on another website. It's on the same strike120.ning.com domain and it's apparently been there for 12 freakin hours.

On Edit: They just added another one right at the very top of the "Forum" section. It's labeled "Fluorescent light lasix" and leads to the same spam page as the other one.

Edited on Mon Jan-04-10 06:33 PM by CLANG
of those they hold responsible for the health bill (which they claim will cost trillions - and there isn't a bill yet!). The reason for their "boycott" is priceless teabaggery:

President , XYZ Company
Vice President , XYZ Company

Dear __________, ____________:

The undersigned write today to express our concerns regarding your political contributions to Senator _________ who supports the Health Care bill. This legislation will severly limit the freedoms and Defense of our Nation. I cannot support any business with such a short sighted approach to business and the greater good of the Country. I urge you to contact Senator _____________ and explicitly denounce your support, and withdrawl any promises for contributions for the candidate so long as they supuport the Health Care Bill in any present form.

I will be boycotting your products and services, and passing this letter along to 10 of my friends and contacts and urging them to do the same until we are aware of a public withdrawl of your support for any candidate who supports the health care bill.

We look forward to again patronizing your company once we see your retraction of support for the candidate,

Thank you,

Besides, who needs THAT footnote to the story of the Boston Tea Party? (Bad enough the Patriots dressed like Native Americans.)
